No. 9 Middlebury rolls over Bates field hockey

2005 LEWISTON, Maine -- Middlebury College's field hockey team, ranked No. 9 nationally in the latest poll, scored five first-half goals and cruised to an 8-1 win over Bates College in NESCAC play Saturday at Campus Avenue Field. The Panthers move to 9-2 overall, 7-1 in NESCAC play, while the Bobcats fall to 5-7 overall, 2-6 in the NESCAC. Reid Berrien scored three goals on the day to lead the Middlebury offense, while Channing Weymouth added a pair. Allison Smith had a goal and two assists in the game, while Enily Enos and Marnie Rowe added solo goals. Junior forward Liz Greenwood (Williamstown, Mass.) scored the Bates goal early in the second half, assisted by classmate Allison Marshall (Princeton, N.J.). Meghan McGillen and Caitlin Pentifallo combined to make two saves in goal for Middlebury, while Sarah Judice (Granby, Conn.) made eight saves for Bates.
