Latest NewsMen's Track and Field Places Tenth at Open New England Outdoor Championships 5/15/ 2005 DURHAM, N.H. – The Bates men's track and field team finished 10th in a field of 36 teams at the prestigious New England Outdoor Championships. In an impressively balanced effort, six Bates athletes scored points for the team. Senior Joel Anderson (New Brighton, Minn.) led the way for the Bobcats, winning the 5000-meter run and holding off Williams' Neal Holtschulte by more than a half-second. Anderson's efforts contributed ten points towards the team total of 23. Senior Scott Cooper (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) was the other big scorer for Bates, placing second in the hammer throw with a throw of 55.54 meters. The Bates sprinters also turned in fine efforts to contribute to the team score. Joel Colony '06 (Harrisville, N.H.) finished sixth in the 200-meter dash and classmate Adam Macbeth (Ellsworth, Maine) turned in an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. The 4x100-meter relay team composed of Macbeth, Joe Northrup '05 (St. Johnsbury, Vt.), Matt Capone '07 (Auburn, Maine) and Colony added an eighth place finish for Bates. |
