DURHAM, N.H. – On the strength of throwers Kelly Godsey and Karissa Carey, the Bates women's track and field team placed tenth in a field of 34 at the Open New England Outdoor Championships last weekend. Godsey '06 (Parker, Colo.) won both the shot put and the hammer throw and placed second in the discus throw. She scored 28 points total, accounting for the majority of the Bates' 34 total points. In the hammer throw Godsey dominated the competition, beating the next closest competition by more than 40 feet. She narrowly missed out on the meet record by a little over a meter. She won the shot put by a full foot, but missed a triple victory by only four feet in the discus throw. Carey '05 finished third in the hammer throw, adding six points to Bates' score. The women's track team continues competition Thursday in the ECAC Championships at Springfield College. |
