Bowdoin swimming and diving teams cruise past Bates

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bowdoin College swimming and diving teams cruised past rival Bates College on Wednesday night in a dual home meet. Bowdoin's men won 150-70 win, while the women defeated Bates 158-81. Bates junior Charles Swanson (Woodbridge, Conn.) won the 500 freestyle for the Bobcat men (1-2). Bates sophomore Emilie Swenson (Old Saybrook, Conn.) won the 100 backstroke for the Bobcat women's (1-2) sole individual event win. Bates' 200 medley relay team highlighted the women's day, nipping the Polar Bears in the final by .03 seconds, 1:55.46 to 1:55.49. Swenson led off the relay, followed by first-year Anna Meader (Westford, Mass.), sophomore Annie Barton (Holladay, Utah) and senior Kate Gatti (Chelmsford, Mass.). Both Bates squads will compete next against Norwich University and the University of New England at home on Jan. 7. |
