Bates' Holte Wins Weekly Grid Honors

LEWISTON, Maine -- Senior linebacker Mike Holte of Bates College is the defensive football player of the week in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).

Holte, of Marshfield, Mass., also was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference weekly honor roll for his play in the Bobcats' season-opening 20-11 loss to highly rated Trinity.

Holte was credited with 15 tackles, three of them solo and two for a loss; five sacks and a forced fumble. He and his defensive mates held formidable Trinity running back Ray Jones to 86 yards on 14 carries.

Bates visits Tufts on Saturday.

Holte is Bates' co-captain and has been the team's leading tackler each of his first three seasons. A graduate of Marshfield High School, he is the son of Kathleen Holte of (81 Nevada St.) Marshfield.
