Text: Introduction to Enumerative Combinatorics, by Miklos Bona (published by McGraw Hill).

Homework: Five homework assignments are to be handed in during the course. The due dates for the homework assignments are April 29, May 5, May 7, May 19 and May 21. I encourage you to discuss the homework problems with others but you must write the solutions on your own. Grading of homeworks will be on both correctness and completeness. Correct answers must be accompanied by coherent and logical explanations to receive full credit. Late homeworks will not be accepted unless there is a genuine emergency.

Class participation: We will engage in class discussions as we learn new concepts. We will solve problems and write proofs together on the board or in groups. Not simply attendance, but your active participation is essential for these activities and will count toward the class participation grade. Reading assignments and other class assignments will contribute to the class participation grade.

Project: You will work individually or in pairs on a project of your choice that is related to enumerative combinatorics. You will submit a written report on the project by noon on May 29 and make an oral presentation on the project during the last week of short term. You will also write summaries of the other oral presentations. I will give more details about the project during the second week of short term.

Exam: There will be an in-class exam on Wednesday, May 13.

Grades: The weights of each category in your final grade are as follows:

Homework: 5% each

Class Participation: 10%

Exam: 25%

Written report: 20%

Oral presentation: 10%

Summaries: 10%

Academic Integrity: The College Code of Student Conduct will be enforced in all the areas of the course and students found to be in violation will be subject to the appropriate disciplinary processes.
