C3 Undergraduate Fellowships
Bates is a member of the Creating Connections Consortium—C3—which brings together liberal arts colleges with diversity officers (LADO colleges) with leading research universities to help develop the next generation of professors and scholars. The C3 Undergraduate Fellowships program provides graduate-level research experience as well as mentoring toward applying to and succeeding in graduate school. Eight- to ten-week summer research fellowships are available at UC Berkeley, University of Chicago, Columbia University, or the University of Michigan.
Recent Bates C3 Fellows include Layla Dozier ’21 (Columbia), Anaïs Gonzalez ’20 (Michigan), and Kyle Larry ’21 (Chicago). Several former C3 Fellows are currently in graduate school pursuing Ph.D.s; they will join the next generation of professors and scholars.
The C3 Fellowship is available to students from LADO colleges with an interest in conducting research in
- the arts and humanities
- humanistic social sciences
First-gen students and students from groups historically under-represented in the academy are especially encouraged to apply. Students interested in the C3 Fellowship should contact Kerry O’Brien (firstname.lastname@example.org) to meet with her as soon as possible in the winter semester. She can talk you through the program and the application process.
