{"id":2371,"date":"2010-09-10T15:53:09","date_gmt":"2010-09-10T15:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hub-dev.bates.edu\/dean-faculty\/mount-david-summit\/poster-mechanics\/"},"modified":"2025-09-09T12:37:26","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T16:37:26","slug":"poster-mechanics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/academics\/student-research\/poster-session-2025\/poster-mechanics\/","title":{"rendered":"Poster Mechanics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Poster Presenters:\u00a0Read these instructions to ensure your poster is ready\u00a0for the  Back to Bates Alumni and Family Weekend Summer Research Poster Session!\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.<strong> Poster size:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/abacus.bates.edu\/~bpfohl\/posters\/\">Printed poster<\/a>&nbsp;size should not be larger than 36&#8243;H x 48&#8243;W.&nbsp; Posters must be horizontally oriented (landscape).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.&nbsp;<strong>Credits:<\/strong>&nbsp;Remember to put your name (and any co-authors) on the front of your poster!&nbsp;Putting your discipline and your advisor&#8217;s name isn&#8217;t a bad idea either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. <strong>Bates logos and wordmark files for Posters in EPS and PNG format.<\/strong> Bates logos, or wordmarks, are available for download in EPS (for print) and PNG (for digital) formats.&nbsp;EPS is a vector format, you may scale the logos to any size you may require. Follow this link&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/communications-marketing\/design-services-1\/downloads\/\">https:\/\/www.batesdesign-services-1\/downloads\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.<strong> Acceptable file format:&nbsp;<\/strong>Your poster&nbsp;<strong>must<\/strong>&nbsp;be submitted&nbsp;as a<strong> .PDF file&nbsp;<\/strong>or Post &amp; Print will not open the file. Beware that when you design a poster in InDesign, some fonts and formatting may not render in a PDF when viewed on a different computer. Once you have saved your poster file as a PDF, you should look at it on your own computer to make sure it looks OK.<strong> &nbsp;For more Power Point Poster Printing Tips,<\/strong>&nbsp;scroll to the bottom of<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/post-and-print\/poster-printing\/\">this page<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5.<strong>&nbsp;Naming convention.&nbsp;<\/strong>Please name your poster file with your Bates network username (underscore) your contact phone number (include area code if not 207):&nbsp;<strong>Example: &nbsp; akeegan_7536952.pdf<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6.<strong> File Submission:<\/strong> All files must be submitted\u00a0<em><strong>electronically via email<\/strong><\/em><strong>.\u00a0<\/strong>Submit to <a href=\"mailto:posterprinting@bates.edu\"><strong>posterprinting@bates.edu<\/strong><\/a> by\u00a0<strong>NOON on Monday, 29 September. <\/strong>The maximum file capacity is 20 megs.\u00a0You are urged to submit your poster before this deadline as there is usually a backlog of submissions to Post &amp; Print right at the last minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7.<strong> Printing deadline. <\/strong>If you are having your poster printed by Bates Post &amp; Print on a wide-format printer, your poster must be submitted for printing no later than <strong>Monday, 29 September at noon<\/strong>.\u00a0You are urged to submit your poster before this deadline as there is usually a backlog of submissions to Post &amp; Print right at the last minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8.<strong> Payment:<\/strong> The Dean of the Faculty&#8217;s office&nbsp; will pay for the cost of one poster per on-time&nbsp;registration and submission. The cost of additional copies must be covered by the student ($40\/poster). Post &amp; Print accepts cash and all major credit cards, cash, or check payment at Post &amp; Print. Make checks payable to Bates College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9.&nbsp;<strong> Late submissions: <\/strong>If a poster file is submitted after the printing submission deadline, the student is charged for the cost of the poster ($40) plus a late fee ($20) for a total of $60. So you want to avoid that! Just submit your file on time and get your poster for free!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial; font-family: var(--fontSansSerif);\">10.<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial; font-family: var(--fontSansSerif);\"> Traditional posters are welcome<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial; font-family: var(--fontSansSerif);\">: A traditional non-computer-generated poster (text and images glued to poster board) is a perfectly acceptable option.\u00a0You may use one or two sheets of poster board (available in the Bookstore for about $.69) and attach your text sheets, maps, diagrams, photos, and other materials.\u00a0This type of poster MUST be assembled before the poster session, not in the Perry Atrium the day of the poster session! We recommend that you make a traditional poster if you are making your poster\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial; font-family: var(--fontSansSerif);\">after<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial; font-family: var(--fontSansSerif);\"> the large-format printing deadline of <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial; font-family: var(--fontSansSerif);\">29<\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial; font-family: var(--fontSansSerif);\"> September<\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial; font-family: var(--fontSansSerif);\">\u00a0at noon<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial; font-family: var(--fontSansSerif);\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11.<strong> Poster delivery<\/strong>: Unless you make specific arrangements, Post &amp; Print will deliver your poster to Pettengill Hall the morning of the Poster Session. If you wish to see your poster in advance of the&nbsp;poster session, you can ask Post &amp; Print staff to email you when the poster is ready.
