{"id":1363,"date":"2019-12-12T07:34:15","date_gmt":"2019-12-12T12:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/accessible-education\/?page_id=1363"},"modified":"2026-01-23T14:53:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T19:53:21","slug":"converting-to-an-alternate-accessible-format","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/accessible-education-student-support\/assistive-technology\/training-support\/converting-to-an-alternate-accessible-format\/","title":{"rendered":"Converting to an Alternate Accessible Format"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Make it accessible (SensusAccess)<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Convert PDFs, JPEGs and other files into an e-book, text file, audio or braille.<\/li>\n<li>You can combine more than one .JPG into a single file.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Converting Inaccessible Documents<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Once you select and upload your file, you then proceed to step 2 to select your output format<\/li>\n<li>Select \u201cAccessible conversion\u201d and then we usually recommend selecting either Doc\/Docx or Tagged PDF (text over image)<\/li>\n<li>Accessible documents are able to be manipulated (text size, font, spacing, etc.) and they work with text-to-speech software, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/accessible-education\/assistive-technology\/readandwrite\/\">Read &amp; Write<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Conditions of use<\/h4>\n<p>You can make an accessible copy if you own the copyright (eg, it&#8217;s your own work), have permission from the copyright holder, if the copyright has expired, or if it&#8217;s for someone with a print disability. If so you need to agree that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the copy won&#8217;t be shared with others<\/li>\n<li>you abide by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act, 1988, Section 31A (Disabled persons: copies of works for personal use)<\/li>\n<li>you abide by the Data Protection Act when storing or sharing converted files that contain personal data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Use SensusAccess to convert a file<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>*You can select any of the following languages, the default is English<\/p>\n<p><!--<center>\n\n<h3> This service is currently unavailable for the next 24 - 48 hours.
