{"id":246,"date":"2016-04-21T11:54:32","date_gmt":"2016-04-21T15:54:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/accessible-education\/?page_id=246"},"modified":"2026-01-18T17:27:29","modified_gmt":"2026-01-18T22:27:29","slug":"resources","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/accessible-education-student-support\/accessible-education-faculty-resources\/resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following resources may be helpful to you in facilitating access for students:<\/p>\n<h3>Inclusive Course Design:<\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/doit\/sites\/default\/files\/atoms\/files\/EA_Instruction_5_28_20_0.pdf\">Equal Access: Universal Design of Instruction<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Sheryl Burgstahler, member of DO-IT at the University of Washington, designed this checklist for inclusive teaching.\u00a0 This checklist was field tested at more than twenty postsecondary institutions nationwide.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/udloncampus.cast.org\/home#.Wyf5X9JKgdU\">UDL on Campus: Universal Design for Learning in Higher Education<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a id=\"glossary_0\" class=\"glossaryWord\" href=\"http:\/\/udloncampus.cast.org\/page\/about#\" data-cfw-popover-toggle=\"glossary_0\" data-cfw-widget=\"popover\">UDL<\/a>\u00a0On Campus is a collection of resources developed by\u00a0<a class=\"a-icon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cast.org\/\">CAST<\/a>\u00a0geared towards multiple stakeholders within postsecondary institutions, including instructional designers, faculty, policy makers, and administrators.\u00a0The purpose of the site is to offer an understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in higher education and contains four sections:\u00a01) UDL in Higher Education, 2) Course Design, 3) Media and Materials, and 4) Accessibility and Policy.\u00a0Each section provides resources about addressing learner variability at the postsecondary level in an effort to improve learning opportunities, retention, and outcomes.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/blogs\/gradhacker\/teaching-tips-udl-friendly-classroom#.WFE3Z6loSqo.gmail\">Teaching Tips for an UDL-Friendly Classroom<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Advice for implementing strategies based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as well as links to practical\u00a0resources (ex: how to create an accessible document and PowerPoint).<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/doit\/programs\/center-universal-design-education\/overview\">The Center for Universal Design in Higher Education<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The Center for Universal Design in Education (CUDE) develops and collects resources to help educators apply universal design to all aspects of the educational experience.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/exploreaccess.org\/projectshift-refocus\/faculty.htm\">Refocus: Faculty Development<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Refocus is an initiative designed to\u00a0examine the role a college disability services office can play in challenging stereotypes about disability and creating truly equitable environments on campus.
