Join local Bates alumni, parents and friends on Saturday, April 20, 2019 for a 10-mile hike in the Massanutten Mountains of the George Washington National Forest. We will hike to Emerald Pond, passing wonderful vistas en route. This outing is considered moderately strenuous, will cover approximately 1,700 vertical feet, and include boulder fields and a short jaunt on a Forestry Service road. Our time on the mountain will be around 6 hours, including lunch and breaks.

We will begin our hike at 10:00 AM SHARP from the trailhead at the old Welcome Center in New Market Gap, VA. Allow ample time to arrive; according to Google, it takes about two hours from DC.

Bring plenty of water, pack a lunch, dress in layers, and wear appropriate footwear. Clouds and sprinkles will not deter us. In case of rain, we will postpone. If time allows, after the hike, those interested will stop in at a vineyard and/ or local inn for dinner.

Reservations are required and space is limited. To RSVP and for more information, please email Jerry Donahoe. Please provide your name, address, cell phone number, and preferred email address in your message so we can communicate/ coordinate prior to the hike!
