Please find below campaigning rules for those running for student government positions. Failure to adhere to the campaigning rules may result in disqualification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div class=\"btn-wrap\">\n\t<div class=\"btn-action\" id=\"candidate-behavior\">\n\t\t<h3 class=\"btn-title\">Candidate Behavior<\/h3>\n\t\t<div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"btn-content\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates must adhere to the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/student-affairs\/student-conduct\/code-of-student-conduct\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Code of Student Conduct<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates are representatives of Bates students to the Bates and Lewiston-Auburn communities. As a potential student body leader, they should be mindful of the intended and potential impact of their actions and behaviors on our communities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates should be respectful of fellow candidates and each candidate will be held accountable for their actions; please refer to the Violations and Disqualification section for more details.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates are prohibited from tampering with other candidates&#8217; print or digital campaign materials. This includes but is not limited to defacing, removing, or blocking posted flyers, making memes out of publications, mock posting on social media, editing published materials, etc.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates may not have individuals other than their running mate (if applicable) create original campaign materials or host campaign events on their behalf (including, for example, tabling in Commons).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div class=\"btn-wrap\">\n\t<div class=\"btn-action\" id=\"campaign-obligations\">\n\t\t<h3 class=\"btn-title\">Campaign Obligations<\/h3>\n\t\t<div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"btn-content\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates must attend all official campaign events relevant to the position they are running for.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a candidate cannot attend they must notify <\/span><a href=\"mailto:csb@bates.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">csb@bates.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in advance of the event, and send a proxy to represent them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Failure of a candidate or their proxy to attend an official event will cancel the candidate\u2019s ticket.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div class=\"btn-wrap\">\n\t<div class=\"btn-action\" id=\"campaigning-methods\">\n\t\t<h3 class=\"btn-title\">Campaigning Methods<\/h3>\n\t\t<div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"btn-content\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Posters, stickers, and flyers are permitted.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates should only post print materials on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/communications-marketing\/begin-your-project\/promoting-your-event-on-campus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">campus bulletin boards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates may not post print materials on other areas including, but not limited to: doors, bathroom stall doors, walls, stairwells, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates may not distribute food items.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates may not spend more than $30 on campaigning materials.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates may be reimbursed by emailing a copy of their purchase receipt(s) to <\/span><a href=\"mailto:campuslife@bates.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">campuslife@bates.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When using Post &amp; Print (by emailing postandprint@bates.edu) to produce campaign materials, please CC <\/span><a href=\"mailto:campuslife@bates.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">campuslife@bates.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to arrange payment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates may not solicit donations or fundraising to support their campaign.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates may not sell merchandise, food items, or services to support their campaign.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social media campaigning is encouraged due to both accessibility as well as its lower impact on the environment versus print campaigning.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates must refer to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/campus\/policies\/social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Campus Life Social Media Policy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when creating their campaign platforms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates will be required to report their platform names to CSB<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social media campaigning may only be done through these accounts\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates may not campaign through listservs or Google Groups unless they are running for Class Representative, in which case they may email their class year&#8217;s corresponding listserv below:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><a href=\"mailto:firstyear@lists.bates.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">firstyear@lists.bates.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><a href=\"mailto:sophomore@lists.bates.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sophomore@lists.bates.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><a href=\"mailto:junior@lists.bates.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">junior@lists.bates.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><a href=\"mailto:senior@lists.bates.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">senior@lists.bates.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Campaigning through<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/quad.bates.edu\/today\/submission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bates Today<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the campus feed on Bates Engage Mobile is permitted.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div class=\"btn-wrap\">\n\t<div class=\"btn-action\" id=\"campaign-content-and-collegiality\">\n\t\t<h3 class=\"btn-title\">Campaign Content and Collegiality<\/h3>\n\t\t<div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"btn-content\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates are prohibited from targeting another candidate&#8217;s campaign in their print and digital campaign materials.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Campaign materials should challenge ideas, not people. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div class=\"btn-wrap\">\n\t<div class=\"btn-action\" id=\"violations-and-disqualification\">\n\t\t<h3 class=\"btn-title\">Violations and Disqualification<\/h3>\n\t\t<div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"btn-content\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Individuals wishing to report violations of these campaigning rules <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cglink.me\/2po\/s217\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">may fill out this form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. CSB will review and investigate submissions to this form and may or may not take action depending on its findings.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any violation of these guidelines may result in disciplinary action, up to and including disqualification. CSB takes its responsibility to hold fair and transparent elections seriously.
