My scientific research interests and experience are in areas of molecular epidemiology, public health, medical microbiology, and host-parasite relationships. My current research involves host and bacterial determinants of urinary tract infections caused by Staphylococcus saprophyticus which disproportionately infects young women. My students and I have worked with local community partners on projects designed to improve health literacy for our community members, especially the new Mainers. These projects have been supported by the Harward Center for Community Partnerships at Bates College.
