Sylvia Deschaine provides able administrative assistance for the science departments in Carnegie Science Building. The building reception office contains a computer, faculty and student laser printers, a vintage IBM Selectric typewriter, two photocopiers, faculty and staff mail boxes and postal supplies, and a kitchenette.  Sylvia hires and supervises the student workers who staff the office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jessi Kemp works with faculty in Biology, Neuroscience, and Biological Chemistry in the development of protocols and experiments involving animals or people as part of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). In this capacity, Jessi provides annual training for students, faculty, and staff using animals for research or teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WRITING AT BATES PROGRAM<\/strong>
<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Writing & Language Center<\/a> is staffed by peer tutors<\/b>: Bates students who have taken several writing-attentive courses in the natural sciences and have learned how to be successful writers and speakers in these courses<\/i>. These peer tutors are prepared to talk with you about your writing and speaking assignments and to meet with you at any stage of your writing process. Whether you want help brainstorming ideas, writing first or second drafts, integrating feedback from your professor, planning or giving and oral presentations, or revising, editing, and proofreading, ARC’s Writing & Language Center peer tutors <\/b>are here to lend you a friendly, compassionate, and well-trained ear! If your science course is a writing-attentive course–or a W1, W2, or W3 course–you may have  a Course-Attached Tutor (CAT) to help you with your writing and speaking assignments in that specific course. You are also welcome to make an appointment with any peer tutor in the Writing & Language Center using Bates’ online tutor appointments portal WCOnline<\/a>, or by simply dropping in to The Academic Resources Commons<\/a> (on the first floor of Ladd Library) during our open hours and a Resource Representative will set you up with an available peer tutor<\/b> in The Writing & Language Center.<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Peter is a tremendous resource for learning how to effectively search and use bioinformatics databases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
