In the distance is Santiago Island.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As you&#8217;ll soon hear from Jake and Kristen, we are absolutely loving it here. We have just arrived back from a very long day trip out to Bartolome Island where we hiked a volcanic cone to the top (and our prize was a fabulous and famous view of Pinnacle Rock).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3435\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/biology\/files\/2014\/05\/bartolome.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3435\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3435\" alt=\"Almost to the top of Bartolome\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/biology\/files\/2014\/05\/bartolome-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3435\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Almost to the top of Bartolome<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While we were hiking up we spotted four Galapagos hawks; it was serendipitous to see them today since we are having dinner tonight with two hawk researchers from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umsl.edu\/~parkerp\/ParkerLab.html\">Parker Lab<\/a> at the University of Missouri St. Louis.
