Bobcat Express (Winter/Spring 2021)

Update: 5/28/2021 – Bobcat Express Transportation Services Ended This Week…

A van will be in service on Friday (5/28) and Saturday (5/29) between the hours of 10:00am – 4:00pm. An announcement will be published early next week informing of a very limited few days service over the Summer.

SUMMER VAN SERVICE is limited to the following schedule:

Tuesdays 10am-4pm; Fridays 10am-10pm; Saturdays 4pm-10pm

 

Services For Students at Hampton Inn and on Campus

Due to the COVID-19 precautions, there is currently a limit of (6) passengers in the van, and no riders in the front seat. The amount of passengers per trip is subject to change based on interpretations of CDC information pertaining to the pandemic and local transmission of the virus. Windows are apt to be open for air circulation and ventilation even as the weather gets colder, so it is recommended to be prepared and dress warmly.

There will be a couple of vans who will stage outside the hotel at around 7:00 a.m. As students come out, a van will transport them to campus and then immediately return to be available for another transport run. At around 8:30 a.m., the vans will stage with one stationed outside the hotel and the other stationed outside Chase Hall on campus, and the vehicles will transmit back and forth as needed.

During class days and in class time, the primary mission of the Bobcat Express Services will be supporting the academic program and the essential transport life-line for the hotel housed students to have access to campus.

During late afternoon and evening, Bobcat Express can help facilitate with requests for transportation to some of the local shopping destinations (outlined below). The support of students who are housed at the hotel and need transportation back and forth to campus will remain the priority mission over shopping interests.

Bobcat Express will also answer to provide transportation services for those who have a medical need or appointment. All prescheduled medical appointments should be communicated in advance so that the driver(s) can be prepared for that change in the operations (outlined and link below).

Regular Schedule 

Bobcat Express will have van service available during the following times:

Monday – Friday; 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m.

  • Beginning at 7:00 p.m. the service will be reduced to a single van which will alternate between Chase Hall and the Hampton Hotel. The regular van schedule will be arriving and leaving at Chase Hall on the hour, and at the Hampton Hotel on the half-hour, and will make the effort to maintain that schedule.

Saturday – Sunday; 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

  • The weekend service will be reduced to a single van which will alternate between Chase Hall and the Hampton Hotel. The regular van schedule will be arriving and leaving at Chase Hall on the hour, and at the Hampton Hotel on the half-hour, and will make the effort to maintain that schedule.

 

Contacting For Service

The primary contact # for Bobcat Express services is (207) 786-8300. During the weekdays daytime hours of operation, there will be student dispatchers available to answer the phone the majority of the time. If the phone is not immediately answered, it will forward to the Campus Safety dispatcher after the 4th ring (it will similarly forward and transfer to the Campus Safety dispatcher during nights and weekends). It is recommended to visually check on whether the van is present before calling. We request that phone calls be limited so as not to interfere with other operations which the Campus Safety dispatcher performs; please do not make repeated calls to check on ETA after a ride request has already been made with a confirmation that the driver will be sent, and try to limit the number of calls being made from a group request. The additional volume of calls does not speed up the service, and it may hamper other important aspects of the Campus Safety operations.

Shuttle Destinations

The Bobcat Shuttle can assist with going to local businesses within a few miles from hotel or campus. Due to the on-going Coronavirus Pandemic, it is advisable to check with businesses in advance to determine any restrictions of their services or times. A few popular locations are featured below:

Walmart – In addition to being one of the largest Wal-Mart in the state you can easily walk to Burger King or Lowe’s.

Kohl’s/Starbucks – Kohl’s is a great place to get clothes, pots and pans, bedding and more, and Starbucks is nice place to get a caffeinated beverage and some quiet time away from campus.

Auburn Mall/Goodwill/Panera/Shaws – The Mall has several stores – Check out the online stores directory.

Auburn Plaza/Flagship Cinema*/TJ Maxx – In addition to those listed you will find Bed Bath and Beyond, the Dollar Tree, Craft Mania, and several other stores. *(Be mindful that if a movie showing is ending at a time beyond the Bobcat Express hours of service, an alternate travel arrangement may be necessary using Uber or Lyft for return)

All of these destinations are in a relatively close walking distance to each other and a short drive from campus. Businesses may have reduced hours and services due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is advisable to check and confirm before making a ride reservation.
