Opened in February 2008, the Bates dining Commons was built to LEED Silver equivalent level, following guidelines to be energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

Designed by Sasaki Associates, Commons allows the college’s dining operation to produce close to no waste while supporting local and organic food. Flexible spaces inside and outside the dining hall, including a Fireplace Lounge and meeting rooms on the second level, offer opportunities for informal conversations and socialization among students, faculty, and staff.
