While Bates is a nondenominational college not affiliated with any one religion, our Multifaith Chaplaincy offers lots of resources, often led by students, to support the religious and spiritual needs of our community. Open to all, Gomes Chapel is a place of solitude, serenity, and community. Inside, banners of the world\u2019s major faith traditions offer reminders of Bates\u2019 inclusive founding and mission. The chapel is named for the late Rev. Peter J. Gomes, a Bates graduate, preacher, and Harvard theologian celebrated for advancing LGBTQ rights from the pulpit and as a best-selling author. The chapel is where we kick off our annual, day-long celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
