During Short Term2014 Bates launched two pilot programs: practitioner-taught courses and innovative pedagogy\/course (re)design courses. Instructors and nearly 100 students in the 9 courses presented at this showcase event.

President Clayton Spencer and Dean Matt Auer kicked off the event with brief remarks. Then guests were able to wander around the Mays Center and talk with the students, alumni practitioners and continuing Bates faculty involved in the courses as they showed off some of their work-in-progress in an interactive format.

7:30pm | Bates Outing Club and Ben Ayers \u201999: A climber, writer, documentary film maker and humanitarian based in Nepal, Ayers returns to campus to help kick off the 100th anniversary of the Bates Outing Club and to talk about his experience in the field, beginning with Bates. A recipient of the Bates Alumni Community Service Award, Ayers directs programs for the dZi Foundation, which partners with communities in Nepal\u2019s remote eastern hills to improve their quality of life. The Benjamin Mays Center is part of the Residential Village. The Mays Center is used for many purposes, including lectures, movies, theatrical productions, buffets, dances, weekday lunch service, and quiet study time. The facility includes a kitchen and a fireplace and features hardwood floors, comfortable couches, and a distinctive, high-ceilinged circular atrium.
