“The Bates College Museum of Art’s support and enthusiasm in my work has been truly gratifying. As a sophomore intern, I never imagined that my exhibition research and proposal would be executed and presented at the Museum during my time at Bates. I appreciated that the Museum encouraged me to participate every step of the way, from selecting works to writing labels, to lighting the show. One highlight of my internship was visiting artist Wally Reinhardt’s studio in New York to view and purchase additional works for the permanent collection. We selected a few of Reinhardt’s beautiful watercolors that depicted myths that weren’t in the collection prior to our studio visit, yet also complemented the existing visual works of Classical mythology that we did have. I hope that this show will encourage more student interest and participation in the arts on campus.”

Located in the Olin Arts Center, the museum houses Bates\u2019 permanent collections of art, including a noted collection of works by Lewiston native Marsden Hartley, who was a prominent American artist early in the twentieth century. The museum attracts many visitors to its active schedule of exhibits, including those attending performances at the nearby Olin Arts Center Concert Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
