Following the packed welcoming remarks, students and their families went in multiple directions for a variety of master classes and activities, including a short hike up a steep incline a five-minute hike from the center of campus. . The wooded hill known as Mount David offers beautiful views of the Lewiston-Auburn area and serves as peaceful setting for reflection. Welcome to Bates!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Mount David is a small hill next to campus that looms large in the imaginations and experiences of Bates students. Trails maintained by students lead to a rocky summit with great views. It\u2019s just 381 feet tall, yet the hilltop feels secluded \u2014 perfect to hang with friends, watch a lunar eclipse, or launch sky lanterns. One of our great traditions takes place on the night before Commencement, when graduating seniors climb Mount David to watch the morning sunrise together. For students who are beginning to explore the natural world, a trip up Mount David is a simple, small step that often leads to bigger outdoor adventures in Maine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLocated off Mountain Avenue, Mount David is a tall rock outcropping on the edge of the Bates College campus. This private property is a popular destination with Bates\u2019 nature lovers.
