My undergraduate degree is in Microbiology, and later I studied for a Master’s in Immunology. After finishing my graduate work, I worked on a project studying the protective immune response to gut-specific pathogens like Reovirus at Harvard Children’s Hospital. After my time there, I chose to go back into the Pharma industry, working on a range of projects, testing and developing therapeutics for cancer immunology, allergy, and autoimmune disorders. Throughout my career, one of the most rewarding aspects has always been mentoring and training young scientists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I grew up in Maine, so when the circumstances and opportunity arose to return and work at Bates, I had little doubt that I would find it rewarding. I really enjoy collaborating with faculty and supporting students’ experience in the lab classrooms. I bring a depth of experience of many of the hands-on techniques we teach in Biochemistry and Microbiology. In my time at Bates, I have also taught many a student, particularly in Biochemistry, how to keep a professional scientific notebook. Good note-taking is arguably a highly transferable skill.
<a href=\"http:\/\/I came to the Bates' teaching labs after a career spent largely in Biotech and Pharmaceutical R & D labs.
