{"id":385,"date":"2010-04-15T15:09:44","date_gmt":"2010-04-15T15:09:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hub-dev.bates.edu\/commencement2008\/?page_id=91"},"modified":"2015-03-19T12:11:19","modified_gmt":"2015-03-19T16:11:19","slug":"pledge-of-social-responsibility","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/commencement\/annual\/y2008\/baccalaureate-service\/pledge-of-social-responsibility\/","title":{"rendered":"Pledge of Social Responsibility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In keeping with Bates\u2019 history of commitment to a just and civil society, the Baccalaureate Committee has adopted the \u201cGraduation Pledge of Social Responsibility,\u201d inviting all in the class to sign.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In choosing to commit themselves to the pledge below, students from the Class of 2008 join those from more than a hundred colleges and universities nationwide. It is not a prescription but rather a choice, allowing new graduates the opportunity to decide for themselves what it means to be socially and environmentally responsible: it signifies a sustained dedication to social consciousness and civic action.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the past, pledge takers have turned their words into action in a variety of ways, from seeking gender parity to establishing recycling programs, to extending conflict resolution services into underserved communities.
