Students should store bicycles in any of the authorized summer bike storage locations, but must place a tag or label on the bicycle with their name, class year, and cell number. Bicycles without a tag or clear label will be removed and donated to the Clean Sweep sale to benefit local Lewiston area charities. Bikes need to be tagged and placed in an approved summer storage location no later than June 1st, 2026 to avoid being donated to Clean Sweep. Green tags will be placed in each of the bike storage areas listed and will also be available from Facility Services.

Donate

Students are encouraged to donate their items to Clean Sweep. The popular event raises money for charity and helps Bates reach its sustainability goals. In a common area of each house and hall, there are signs that designate an area for donation items. Clean Sweep will take any items that are not bedding, mattresses, or obvious trash. Do not leave donations in hallways or in your room. Local volunteers help move items to the event, so items must be in a central location in each building.

Take out the trash

Anything that can’t be stored or donated should be disposed of properly. Take your trash and unusable items to the trash area. Anything left in a room trash can, on top of a room trash can, in a trash bag, or in the hallway is considered trash and will be disposed of. If you have large broken items please throw them out to avoid charges.

Clean

Ask your custodian for trash bags, brooms, or vacuums to make sure your room has been left in “broom clean condition” meaning:

free of all debris

free of personal effects

swept clean after their belongings have been removed

Return your key

You should return your key to Campus Safety before you leave to avoid late or re-keying fees. You should not leave your key in your room or give it to a friend to return. Check the Access Control website for information on the fees associated with not returning your key on time.

Return your library items

Make sure you return your library books and media to stay free of fees.
