Bioinformatics Tutorial

An online tutorial that accompanies the lab section of Biology 242.  The tutorial allows students to compare the molecular structure of an enzyme (alpha amylase) and guides them through steps involved in finding the gene sequences of the enzymes and in comparing them with the BLAST and ClustalW tools. The tutorial was Bates’s contribution to a grant project, Bioinformatics in the Undergraduate Curriculum.  It also received funding from the HHMI, which has subsequently added it to its list of Cool Science projects.
