Technos Faculty Fellowship: Technos International Week in Japan

CALL FOR FACULTY FELLOW
Technos International Week in Japan
June 9 – 22, 2019

Deadline to apply: 11:59 PM on JANUARY 15TH

With support from the Tanaka Memorial Foundation, each year Bates sends one faculty member and two students for two weeks of international exchange at Technos College in Tokyo, Japan. The opportunity is meant for scholars and students new to Japanese culture. The guidelines state that participants should have limited previous travel experience in Japan and little exposure to Japanese language: this is truly a gateway, cultural exchange venture.

All expenses are covered, including a small stipend. Students and faculty work together on a modest project during the trip to present upon return to Bates; the faculty member is asked to provide a presentation while there to faculty and students at Technos College. Once the Bates faculty member is selected, they assist in choosing the student fellows.

Previous recent participants include Professors Mia Liu (2018), Bill Matthews (2017), Anita Charles (2016), Ali Akhtar (2015), John Baughman (2014), Mara Tieken (2013), and Nancy Koven (2012).

Information on Technos International Week may be found on the website:

TO APPLY: Faculty interested in participating should complete this brief webform explaining:

1) basis of your interest in the exchange;
2) benefits of this exchange for your growth as a researcher and/or teacher;
3) possible ideas for a small project to work on with students and present upon return.

Please submit your application form by 11:59 PM January 15, 2019.

Reporting Requirements. Within two weeks of returning from Technos International Week, a brief report is required from the faculty member.  The report should be 1-2 pages in length, and should highlight how this experience enriched the goals set forth in the original proposal. Photos of the experience are also encouraged. Please send any reports electronically to Alison Keegan (akeegan@bates.edu).

If you have questions please contact Dean Imber (mimber@bates.edu).
