Request for Replacements & Additional Courses

Academic unit chairs should submit requests for replacement and additional courses by the fourth Friday in October using the three-year plan, which is part of the new allocation request process: (https://www.bates.edu/dof/3-year-plan-and-the-tpt-new/). If you have a request that falls outside of that timeframe, please complete the form below. 

Bates considers the curricular needs of our students its top priority. It also supports the scholarly pursuits of faculty through sabbaticals, other leaves, and course reductions. (See faculty Leave Programs and Support at https://www.bates.edu/dof/faculty-scholarship/.) Through the dean of the faculty and division chairs, the College makes an effort to replace faculty taking leave and course reductions for purposes of scholarship and pedagogy and to add courses in cases of extraordinary curricular need.  The dean and division chairs give priority to faculty away for a full academic year but consider semester-long replacements and additional courses when need is demonstrated and funds are available.
