Resources for Faculty
Below is a list of resources available to faculty. The list consists of a mix of materials created for asynchronous use by faculty as they develop their courses and recordings of webinars and synchronous sessions presented by members of the Bates Community.

Bates Resources for Teaching in AY 2020 – 21 (Lyceum Course)
The Bates Resource Clearing House of Remote Teaching and Learning Resources. This is a Lyceum course that holds resources for faculty regarding anything from pedagogy to technical instruction. The main categories for the resources are listed below and can be accessed directly by clicking.

- The CBB Pedagogy Matters collaboration presents the May Institute, August annual conference, and Course Design Experiences throughout the year.
- Strategies and Resources for Success: A quick start guide for teaching in a modular semester.
- The Writing @ Bates video workshop page has useful items, including a short video on teaching writing in intensive courses.
- Cultivating Inclusive Climates for Learning. Kathy Takayama gave a webinar sponsored by HHMI. The materials have been uploaded to Lyceum.
- Faculty / Staff “Going Remote Survey Results. Institutional Research presented a summary of the results in late June.
- Remote Learning Assessment Resources. The IRA page where they collect resources useful for assessing student learning in remote modes of instruction. IRAP also now has added a page, Teaching in a Pandemic, that might be helpful.
- A list of rooms that have systems that allow class capture and Zoom.
Resources for Teaching In-person in AY 2020 – 21
Below is an annotated list of resources you may find useful as you prepare for in person instruction during the ‘20-’21 academic year. We will add to this list as new resources emerge and we thank those of you who have made suggestions regarding links for inclusion.
- Centering active learning methodologies, this document provides examples of how each one can be accomplished in multiple online and in person settings:
- Created by Washington State University Professor Mike Caulfield this video offers a “Zoomflex” approach to conceptualizing teaching and learning
- Offering concrete ideas about how to engage in active learning in physically distanced classrooms, this piece is part of the larger “Transforming Teaching and Learning” dialogue being hosted by Inside Higher Education “that explores how colleges and professors are reimagining how they teach and how students learn” .
- Designed to support faculty as they transition back to on campus learning, this is an open discussion forum for faculty being facilitated by Christopher Heard at Pepperdine University
