The committee advances pedagogical excellence, inclusive teaching practices, and the recognition of outstanding instruction across the faculty. Committees and units considering teaching and learning issues can consult with TLC.<br><br><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><br>The committee pursues its mission through the following responsibilities:<br><br><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Student Course Feedback and Advising the Faculty Personnel Committee<\/span><br>Develop and periodically revise the student course feedback survey instrument.<br>Recommend procedures and effective practices for the administration and use of student course<br>feedback in faculty evaluation processes.<br>Study and recommend methodologies for the comprehensive evaluation of teaching<br>effectiveness, including but not limited to student feedback, peer observation, teaching<br>portfolios, and advising assessment.<br><br><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Teaching Recognition and Awards<\/span><br>Recommend and periodically review processes for recognizing and celebrating teaching<br>excellence among faculty, including teaching awards.<br><br><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Support for Teaching Excellence<\/span><br>Collaborate with the Center for Inclusive Teaching and Learning (CITL) and other campus<br>groups to identify faculty needs and priorities related to teaching development and pedagogical<br>innovation.<br>Make recommendations to support inclusive teaching practices and faculty capacity to address<br>diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and advising.<br>Make recommendations to support curricular assessment.<br>Make recommendations responding to educational and learning technologies that affect<br>teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes.<br>Advise on institutional priorities and initiatives related to teaching and learning.<br><br><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Reporting and Review<\/span><br>The committee reports to the faculty and makes recommendations to the Faculty Personnel<br>Committee, the Dean of the Faculty, and other appropriate bodies as needed and\/or requested.<br>The committee shall conduct periodic reviews of its charge and practices to ensure continued<br>relevance and effectiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Composition<\/strong>: The dean of the faculty, ex officio, four teaching faculty appointed by the<br>Committee on Faculty Governance, with one representative from each academic division (Arts<br>and Humanities, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Interdisciplinary<br>Programs), and the director of the Center for Inclusive Teaching and Learning (CITL), ex officio.<br>The director of CITL shall act as co-chair alongside a faculty committee member.
