Learning Associates<\/strong> are graduate scholars, practitioners or other experts who work with students at any point during their four years at Bates to develop the skills, knowledge and growth important during their senior thesis experience. They are associates, whose expertise and advice enhance the faculty member\u2019s teaching. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/learning-associates\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/learning-associates\/\">Information and Application<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Visiting Scholars.<\/strong> Bringing Scholars and Artists to campus for a short visit can offer students unique perspectives and insights enhancing their classroom experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/bringing-scholars-and-artists-to-campus\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/bringing-scholars-and-artists-to-campus\/\">Guidelines and Best Practices.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/teaching-and-advising\/visa-guidelines\/international-visitors\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/teaching-and-advising\/visa-guidelines\/international-visitors\/\">International Visitors<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Faculty Awards and Recognition<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kroepsch Award<\/strong>. Established in 1985, and awarded annually, the Robert H. Kroepsch &#8217;33 LL.D. &#8217;71 award recognizes outstanding teaching. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/kroepsch-award\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/kroepsch-award\/\">Details and Past Recipients<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Faculty Recognition Program<\/strong>. The Dean of Faculty&#8217;s Office recognizes and celebrates outstanding teaching and scholarship at meaningful moments in the career of faculty members: promotion, tenure, and retirement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/welcome\/scholarship\/bates-college-faculty-recogition-program\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/welcome\/scholarship\/bates-college-faculty-recogition-program\/\">Information and Recent Recipient Book Selections<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Endowed Professorships. <\/strong>Bates has more than 30 endowed professorships to honor exceptional teaching faculty.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/welcome\/hiring-and-personnel\/endowed-professorships\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/welcome\/hiring-and-personnel\/endowed-professorships\/\">Description, Criteria, and Current Endowed Professors<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Faculty Profiles<\/strong>. We offer faculty the ability to create a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/faculty\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/faculty\/\">profile<\/a> of their scholarly work.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/wordpress\/updating-faculty-profiles\/\">Faculty can update their profile<\/a>&nbsp;themselves or with the help of their Academic Administrative Assistant (AAA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Faculty Remembrances<\/strong>. We offer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/emeritx-remembrances\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/emeritx-remembrances\/\">remembrances and memorial minutes<\/a> for our colleagues who are recently deceased. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Memoranda of Understanding<\/strong>.&nbsp;If they feel it is helpful, a member of the faculty can create a memorandum of understanding that makes visible their contributions to multiple academic units and curricula. Each lunch features two speakers allowing us to spotlight accomplishments or works in progress as well as foster cross-disciplinary dialogue, collaboration, and community. Additionally, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/center-inclusive-teaching-learning\/newsletters\/\">CITL newsletter<\/a>&nbsp;has an \u201cAssessment Corner\u201d feature written by our ad hoc assessment specialist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Travel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Travel to Conferences<\/strong>. The Dean of Faculty encourages <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/professional-travel\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/professional-travel\/\">travel to conferences<\/a> for faculty in support of pedagogy and offers partial support for travel costs associated with professional activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Travel Funds for Instructional Specialists<\/strong>. Bates supports Assistants in Instruction with travel funding to academic workshops and conferences to support professional development. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/funding-for-assistants-in-instruction\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/funding-for-assistants-in-instruction\/\">Details and Application<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Traveling with Family<\/strong>.
