{"id":2194,"date":"2010-09-09T14:53:48","date_gmt":"2010-09-09T14:53:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hub-dev.bates.edu\/dean-faculty\/?page_id=2194"},"modified":"2025-06-16T11:48:01","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T15:48:01","slug":"faculty-emeritusemerita-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/teaching-and-advising\/faculty-emeritusemerita-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"Faculty Emeritus\/Emerita Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eligibility<\/p>\n<p>Generally, members of the faculty with 15 years of service to the College are eligible to be considered for emeritus status on retirement.\u00a0 In those unusual circumstances when a member of the faculty who has served for fewer than 15 years is recommended for emeritus status, consideration of contributions might include:\u00a0 leadership positions such as chair of a department, program and\/or faculty committee, significant contributions as teacher and\/or a scholar, or unique contributions to the curriculum.<\/p>\n<h3>Process<\/h3>\n<p>For teaching faculty:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The department\/program chair(s) or the dean of the faculty (after consulting with the senior members of the department\/program) generally initiate recommendations for emeritus\/emerita status.<\/li>\n<li>Recommendations should include a curriculum vitae and a summary of the candidate&#8217;s achievements.<\/li>\n<li>Recommendations are made to the dean of the faculty for consideration by the appropriate personnel committee, which makes recommendations to the president for final decision by the Board of Trustees.<\/li>\n<li>Emeritus rank of a teaching faculty is always raised to full professor except in the case of senior lecturers and lecturers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For deans, the chief financial officer, the registrar, the librarian, and the principal assistant librarian:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Recommendations are initiated by the candidate&#8217;s administrative superior.<\/li>\n<li>Recommendations include a curriculum vitae and a summary of the candidate&#8217;s achievements.<\/li>\n<li>Recommendations are made to the president for final decision by the Board of Trustees.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For the president:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The president is granted emeritus\/emerita status by action and at the discretion of the Board of Trustees.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Eligibility Associated with Emeritus Status<\/h3>\n<p>Faculty with emeritus status:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>are listed in the College Catalog;<\/li>\n<li>receive identification cards permitting faculty library privileges and access to<\/li>\n<li>athletic\/recreation facilities;<\/li>\n<li>are listed in faculty directory;<\/li>\n<li>are invited to process in the ceremonial occasions of the College;<\/li>\n<li>receive email access;<\/li>\n<li>receive campus-wide publications and announcements;<\/li>\n<li>receive a college parking tag;<\/li>\n<li>use official stationery when called on to act as reference for former students and<\/li>\n<li>colleagues or any other similar service;<\/li>\n<li>retain any special professorship title.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eligibility Generally, members of the faculty with 15 years of service to&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":0,"parent":1647,"menu_order":6,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","template":"","meta":{"_hide_ai_chatbot":false,"_ai_chatbot_style":"","associated_faculty":[],"_Page_Specific_Css":"","_bates_restrict_mod":false,"_dimp_site_id":"","_dimp_override_contact":false,"_table_of_contents_display":false,"_table_of_contents_location":"","_table_of_contents_disableSticky":false,"_is_featured":false,"footnotes":"","_bates_seo_meta_description":"","_bates_seo_block_robots":false,"_bates_seo_sharing_image_id":0,"_bates_seo_sharing_image_twitter_id":0,"_bates_seo_share_title":"","_bates_seo_canonical_overwrite":"","_bates_seo_twitter_template":""},"class_list":["post-2194","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/2194","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/5"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2194"}],"version-history":[{"count":5,"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/2194\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":18778,"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/2194\/revisions\/18778"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/1647"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2194"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
