According to the charter, the president and the board of trustees hold fiduciary responsibility for the institution. The composition and duties of the faculty are described in Article IX. The teaching faculty\u2019s work on <em>ad hoc<\/em>, appointed, and elected committees, along with some policies specific to the role of teaching faculty, are described in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/the-faculty-handbook\/\">faculty handbook<\/a>. The faculty also adhere to the policies and guidance provided in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/hr\/reference\/employee-handbook\/\">employee handbook<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Faculty Governance Information<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/governance-and-policies\/committees-2\/\">Committees<\/a>: Information regarding the composition and charge of the elected, appointed, and ad hoc committees of the college.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/the-faculty-handbook\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/dof\/the-faculty-handbook\/\">The Faculty Handbook<\/a>: Information and resources to inform faculty of their work as teachers, scholars, advisors, and members of the faculty body. It also outlines information on faculty rights, responsibilities, and protections and defines the various roles pertaining to shared governance.
