Dunn House Policies & Procedures

Check In/Check Out Times

  • Check-in is after 2:00 pm on the guest arrival date.
  • Check-out is no later than 11:00 am on the guest departure date. It is absolutely essential that all guests check-out no later than the designated time. Should your guest have business on campus throughout the day of departure, please remind them that they must check-out of the house by 11:00 am and must move their vehicle out of the Dunn Guest House driveway at the time of check-out unless other arrangements have been approved by Michelle Lewis. It is important that each guest abide by these rules to allow adequate time for our custodial staff to clean each room thoroughly for the next guest.

If guests do not check-out by the designated time, their belongings will be moved out of the room in order to prepare for incoming guests and the sponsoring department may be assessed another night’s fee. Belongings moved out of a room after check-out time will be placed in an unsecured area in the kitchen and the college will NOT be responsible for theft or damage resulting from this move. We will make every attempt to contact the sponsor and inform them of the situation.

Guest Room Keys

There is no on-site manager at the Dunn Guest House. Staff hosting a guest must pick up the keys for the guest and make arrangements on how the guest will get the keys. Please do NOT send your guest to pick up the keys on their own. As host, it is your responsibility to pick up the keys. Keys must be picked up at the Access Control Office located in the Campus Safety building at 245 College Street between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

Please Note the Following:

  • Keys will be handed out the day the guest is scheduled to arrive.
  • This office is not open on weekends or holidays. Individuals with guests arriving on Saturday or Sunday can pick up the keys on the prior Friday. Those with guests arriving on a holiday can pick up the key on the last day of regular business hours prior to the holiday closure (i.e., if the holiday falls on a Wednesday, keys will be available on Tuesday).

Please observe check-in and check-out times. The exterior doors at Dunn Guest House are on the college’s e-access system. Guests will need to swipe the small, black fob (circular black item on their keychain) in front of the black card readers outside of the house entrances to gain access. Each fob will be programmed to allow your guest to gain entrance into the building after 2:00 pm on the day of arrival and will be de-programmed by 11:00 am on the day of departure resulting in a lock-out. Please make sure your guests are aware and plan accordingly.

Note: Campus Safety is not responsible for letting guests into the house or their rooms. They should ONLY be contacted in the case of an emergency or room lock-out.

Meals and Food

The Dunn Guest House does not have a full kitchen. Snack foods such as bagels, cream cheese, jam, coffee, tea, soda, juice and water are provided. Dining passes to Commons and the Den are available to guests staying at the house. The cost will be charged to the sponsoring department. Please contact Kelly Perreault at ext. 6299 or by email at kperrea2@bates.edu for information and please copy Cheryl Lacey – clacey@bates.edu. Catering does not deliver individual meals to guests.

Housekeeping and Toiletries

Rooms will be cleaned following the scheduled departure of a guest with appropriate linen and toiletries. There is no daily service, such as beds being made, etc. for guests staying multiple nights. Guests who stay longer than a week will have their room cleaned once a week. Note: Bates College is not responsible for any personal items left behind. Please check carefully before you leave.

All Dunn Guest House rooms contain 1 bathroom. They are equipped with an iron and ironing board (in the closet) and a hairdryer (in the bathroom). In addition, each bathroom will contain a small-sized bottle of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel for the guest to use, if needed.

Parking

All guests staying at the Dunn Guest House can park their vehicles in the driveway. There is room for five vehicles. If you are parking your vehicle in the driveway, we ask that you park in such a way as to allow space for all five vehicles. Please do not park in front of the garage.
Guests traveling with their own vehicle and staying on campus beyond the check-out time, will need to move their vehicle from the driveway by 11:00 am (check-out time) unless alternate arrangements have been made with Michelle Lewis (753-6957). We ask all guests to adhere to these policies so that new guests arriving will be able to access their room on time and also have the ability to park in the driveway upon their arrival.

Computing

There is a computer in the dining room area which is connected to a printer and has internet access as well as the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) which is available to all guests. Guests will have access to wireless internet. You will receive instructions to access the internet when you receive your room confirmation.
