My Account<\/strong>\u201d in the upper right corner<\/p>\n\n\n\nIn the \u201cMy Bates Portal\u201d box, click on \u201cLog in to your Bates account \u201d and enter your complete Bates email address and Bates password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the “Browse” area of the navigational panel on the middle left-hand side of the screen, navigate through “Collections” then \u201cDepartments and Programs\u201d then \u201cGeology\/EACS\u201d then “Student Scholarship” then \u201dStandard Thesis\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From this page, look for the \u201cSubmit Research<\/strong>\u201d link under the \u201cAuthor Corner<\/strong>\u201d subsection on the left hand side of the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\nYou will need to manually enter the following information into the submission form when you upload your thesis:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n- Thesis title<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Author (Your full name)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Date of Graduation (Month, Year.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Level of Access (The level of restriction will be determined both yourself and your advisor, consult with them to determine level of access before<\/strong> uploading your thesis.) Access levels are as follows:\n
\n- “Open Access\u201d to grants permission to Bates College to distribute this thesis for scholarly and research use to the general public on the internet. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- \u201cRestricted: Campus\/Bates Community Only Access\u201d the thesis is to be made available only to the Bates on campus community. If the thesis includes copyrighted materials the use of which do NOT conform to the fair use provision of the United States copyright code select this option.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- \u201cRestricted: Archival\u201d Only select if the thesis is being submitted for archiving on to SCARAB. The thesis will not be accessible from the public portal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- \u201cRestricted Access: Embargoed [Open Access After Expiration of Embargo]\u201d The thesis is inaccessible to the general public and the Bates Community for a specified length of time and then made available to all after that embargo period.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- \u201cRestricted Access: Embargoed [Bates Community After Expiration of Embargo]\u201d The thesis is inaccessible to both the general public and the greater Bates community for a specified length of time and then made available only to the Bates Campus community after that embargo period.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Embargo Period (Select the appropriate number of years if an embargo period is required.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Degree Name (Select \u201cBachelor of Arts\u201d or \u201cBachelor of Science\u201d)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Department or Program (Geology or Earth and Climate Sciences)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Second Department or Program (if your thesis counts in more than one major)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Number of Pages (list number of pages in your thesis)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Advisor(s) (list the advisors of the thesis)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Keywords (six descriptive words or phrases, each separated by commas, that might help with the indexing and retrieval of the thesis; )<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Abstract (Copy and paste a one paragraph thesis abstract of 250 words or less. If there is no abstract type in None.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Components of Thesis (A listing of the number and types of files that comprise your thesis. Example: 1 .pdf file, 3 .jpg files, 3 .CSV files) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
After completing the descriptive fields select \u201cUpload file from your computer<\/strong>\u201d button to upload your thesis from the computer. When the form is complete, you should click the \u201cSubmit<\/strong>\u201d button. Once clicked, the button text changes from \u201cSubmit\u201d to \u201cProcessing.\u201d Depending on your internet speed and a number of other factors this may take some time, please be patient<\/strong>. If the upload succeeds, your browser will display a confirmation page.
