Endowed support for off-campus study opportunities enable students to broaden their perspectives, apply classroom learning to real-world settings, and engage in transformative experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-highlight highlight-box\">\n<p><strong>The David S. Barlow Endowment for Study Abroad<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>FY24 Book Value:<\/strong> $1,549,607.40<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>FY24 Market Value<\/strong>: $1,653,639.94<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Amount Spent to Support Bates Students in FY25:<\/strong> $85,363.99<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>Given by David S. Barlow &#8217;79, the fund provides broad support for the college\u2019s off-campus study programs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Barlow Fund also supports students\u2019 return to campus, including a photography exhibit mounted during the annual Mount David Summit, which gives returning students the opportunity to share their experiences with the college community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Boosting Athletic Excellence<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXdRSagqQvFfCgUcQcpFor9PshQUb5nft1dL1WmlIfM-4zoPTUJAXK0N3uEH9qY5_kVzp8_zE0iCmZmcTZpyMdUzZtqPzSnzKahNgQdFzik03eBF5zKjgul8FxikSIY2eNq73fSc4g?key=HbB6r0BklhidkjVPP8d8jEaF\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Bates women&#8217;s basketball team reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament in 2024, the third time in program history. (Brewster Burns for Bates College)&nbsp;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Endowed funds support the experience of Bates student-athletes by providing funding for expanded travel and training opportunities, better equipment, and stepped-up recruiting efforts \u2014 as well as support that&#8217;s more intangible, such as reaffirming the Bates&nbsp;culture of giving back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-highlight highlight-box\">\n<p><strong>Timoll Family Endowment for Women&#8217;s Basketball<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>FY24 Book Value<\/strong>: $108,606.49<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>FY24 Market Value<\/strong>: $109,147.90<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Amount Spent to Support Bates Students in FY25: <\/strong>$5,621.51<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the endowed funds that support Bates athletics is the Timoll Family Endowment for Women&#8217;s Basketball. Established by Garth A. L. Timoll Sr. &#8217;99 and other donors, the endowment supports the women&#8217;s basketball program by covering costs such as recruiting, travel, and assistant coaching salaries, offsetting expenses not included in the program&#8217;s annual operating budget.
