Campus Accessibility Guide

Bates College endeavors to create an environment through-out campus that is barrier-free to the maximum extent possible.  In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, new buildings and major renovations are designed as accessible facilities.  Additionally, the college has performed a self-evaluation of our existing facilities to identify areas where barriers may be removed to improve accessibility so that programs and activities are accessible.  This guide for improvement has led to the compilation of a multi-year improvement plan.

Campus and Building Accessibility

Buildings on Bates College’s Campus vary in degrees of accessibility to people with physical disabilities.  See the Campus Map, then click on the parking Accessibility Map identifies the accessibility entry location of each building, for use by those with physical disabilities.  Please refer to the legend for a complete explanation of symbols.

Parking for Visitors, Staff, and Students

Parking spaces designated with the blue and white international accessibility symbol are available to vehicles displaying the handicapped plate, decal, or placard issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

With early planning, students with documented medical conditions can be placed, when warranted, in housing locations that will best accommodate their special needs.  Bates College residential facilities include barrier free accommodations in a variety of housing options.
