{"id":2274,"date":"2010-07-30T15:25:09","date_gmt":"2010-07-30T15:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hub-dev.bates.edu\/campus-improvements\/campus-facilities-master-plan-2003-04\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T12:13:37","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T16:13:37","slug":"campus-facilities-master-plan-2003-04","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/facility\/campus-improvements\/campus-facilities-master-plan-2003-04\/","title":{"rendered":"Master Plan (&#8217;03-04)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Campus Facilities Master Plan (2003-04)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In spring&nbsp;2003, the Board of Trustees approved a comprehensive review of campus facilities, infrastructure, and surroundings.&nbsp;This thorough review of facilities and space usage was intended to give Bates a solid base of information and a set of reasonable cost estimates to guide future development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Campus Facilities Master Plan was conceived to guide the physical layout of the campus over the next decades and&nbsp;to help support broader strategic planning decisions.&nbsp;The comprehensive facilities review evaluated College capacities and goals and involved extensive consultations with members of all campus constituencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0plan built upon and augmented the vision for Bates that\u00a0was\u00a0laid out in the earlier Goals 2005 strategic planning process; it will also\u00a0help the College systematically identify ways to link its vision and mission to a list of\u00a0priorities and a tentative timetable for achieving its goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The firm of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sasaki.com\">Sasaki Associates Inc.<\/a> helped&nbsp;Bates conduct a comprehensive site review and&nbsp;presented several design concepts for the development of the campus for the next decade and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/Images\/oipa\/lake_andrews_daisies_300.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What&nbsp;<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">is<\/span><\/em> a Master Plan?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A&nbsp;master plan &#8220;lays out the direction, physical needs, and overall appearances,&#8221; of an institution over the next 15 to 20 years. It includes a land use plan; location and type of architecture; renovation plans; a landscape concept; a plan for the movement and placement of people and vehicles; property development; and plan for utilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">James Biehle. 1991.
