This comprehensive review process evaluated College capacities and goals and involved extensive consultations with members of all campus constituencies. In August 2003 the firm of Sasaki Associates Inc. of Boston was selected to develop the plan. The Plan was adopted by the Board of Trustees in October 2004.<\/p>\n<h2>Summary of outcomes<\/h2>\n<p>The Campus Facilities Master Plan addresses these issues in a phased approach that will result in a campus with strongly defined quads and strong connections among them. It is a road map, not a blueprint, anticipating that detailed planning and programming will be undertaken for each step.<\/p>\n<h3 align=\"left\">Phase I:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Adds a new Dining Commons<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Adds a major new residential complex as first step in a 15-year plan to bring College housing up to contemporary standards and reduce the density of the living spaces<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Creates a major pedestrian corridor through the campus that provides an east-west link and addresses the infrastructure needs of the new facilities<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Reprograms the use of Hedge and Roger Williams Halls and brings them up to contemporary standards<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Addresses renovation of the Chapel (should condition of the existing structure require immediate attention)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Completes the detailed analysis of physical condition of all existing buildings begun by Sasaki, and includes detailed analysis of programmatic needs of existing building occupants (the Facilities Renewal Process)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"left\">These Phase I projects are underway or in planning.<\/p>\n<h3 align=\"left\">Subsequent Phases will:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Create major residential and student life complex on Campus Avenue<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Establish or strengthen residential clusters in the Village, Page, and John Bertram areas, and bring all student housing up to contemporary standards<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Plan for long-term needs for interdisciplinary science facilities<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Plan for long-term needs for library services<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Plan for improvements in fitness and athletic facilities<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Plan for improvements and possible creation of new quad in the Wood Street area<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Periodically refine the Facilities Master Plan itself as the campus is shaped by new projects and as new demands and conditions emerge<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Campus Facilities Master Plan was conceived to guide the physical layout&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":2273,"menu_order":4,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","template":"","meta":{"_hide_ai_chatbot":false,"_ai_chatbot_style":"","associated_faculty":[],"_Page_Specific_Css":"","_bates_restrict_mod":false,"_table_of_contents_display":false,"_table_of_contents_location":"","_table_of_contents_disableSticky":false,"_is_featured":false,"footnotes":"","_bates_seo_meta_description":"","_bates_seo_block_robots":false,"_bates_seo_sharing_image_id":0,"_bates_seo_sharing_image_twitter_id":0,"_bates_seo_share_title":"","_bates_seo_canonical_overwrite":"","_bates_seo_twitter_template":""},"class_list":["post-2275","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry","with-sidebar"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/facility\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/2275","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/facility\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/facility\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/facility\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/facility\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2275"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/facility\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/2275\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2953,"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/facility\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/2275\/revisions\/2953"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/facility\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/2273"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/facility\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2275"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
