Programs for Junior Faculty at Bates
The transition from the status of a first-year faculty member to that of a junior faculty member who is subject to review as a tenure track colleague can be daunting. Junior faculty are expected to advise majors in their departments and programs, produce research or creative work, design new classes and participate in the work of the college. We support junior faculty on this journey through a workshop and a mentoring program. Members of the faculty in their second and third year at Bates are invited to a workshop each August to discuss best practices for advising, a program that provides voluntary and confidential mid-semester assessment of their courses, an overview of the tenure process and the faculty mentoring program.
