Mentoring for Mentors at Bates
We consider the relationship between mentors and mentees to be mutually supportive and offer opportunities for both the junior and senior faculty alike to grow and develop as teachers, scholars, and leaders in the work of the college. It is important, however, for mentors to receive support as they perform this valuable role for the college. We hold three annual sessions for mentors. In September, we review the most current theory of mentoring in higher ed, the stages of the tenure and promotion process, and resources to consider directing junior faculty to use at Bates and beyond. In the winter, we hold a lunch for mentors and those considering participating in the program. Finally, in the spring, we ask mentors to give us feedback on their experience and advice for how best to improve the program.
