Professor Carlson Hasler’s research focuses the relationships among empires, trauma, archives, and writing in the ancient world. She is writing a book about how archival spaces are transformed into texts in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, arguing that writing is a culturally-vital act of collection in this period. She is interested in how such strategies of writing might aid (or impede) a community’s recovery after they have suffered significant loss and while they are still in the shadow of imperial rule. Her other research interests include gender and sexuality in antiquity and the use and understanding of the Bible in contemporary American religious contexts.
