Luke Chicoine joined Bates College as an Assistant Professor of Economics in 2017. His main research interest is in the field of development economics, with a focus on health and human capital in Sub-Saharan Africa. Ongoing projects seek to identify the long-run consequences of Free Primary Education programs in a number of countries around the world.

Professor Chicoine’s teaching interests include principles of microeconomics, development economics, and the applied practices of data collection and analysis. He is also a research affiliate at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA).
