Tamirisa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Asha Tamirisa<\/b> is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores entanglements of technology, materiality, metaphor, and memory. Working across performance, installation, film, and experimental electronic music, she creates immersive environments that combine analog sound and image, digital audiovisual processes, and handcrafted media techniques.<\/p>\n<p>Tamirisa\u2019s work has been presented at venues and festivals including Harvard University\u2019s Shelemay Sound Lab, ICA Boston, Flux Festival Montr\u00e9al, La Sala Rossa, Waterworks Festival of Experimental Music, Indexical\u2019s <i>Digital Alchemy<\/i> series, the Museum of Science Boston, MIT\u2019s Dissolve Music Festival, and Bitforms Gallery. Her installations and moving-image works have been exhibited at the Portland Museum of Art, UnionDocs, Punto y Raya, Woman Made Gallery, the Toledo Museum of Art, and the New Zealand International Film Festival, among others. Her work is held in the permanent collections of the Portland Museum of Art and Rhizome\u2019s ArtBase.<\/p>\n<p>Her work has been supported by the LEF Foundation Moving Image Fund, the Maine Arts Commission Media Arts Fellowship, Ellis-Beauregard Foundation\u2019s Project Grant, SPACE Gallery\u2019s Kindling Fund, and Le Laboratoire Art\/Science Converged commission. She has participated in residencies at The Kitchen (NYC), Perte de Signal (MTL), Hewnoaks Artist Colony (ME), the Media Archaeology Lab (CO), and I-Park Foundation (CT).<\/p>\n<p>Alongside her creative practice, Tamirisa is a researcher whose scholarship focuses on the cultural histories of electronic sound technologies. Her work has appeared in <i>Feminist Review, <\/i><i>the Journal for Popular Music Studies<\/i><i>,<\/i> and in the edited volume\u00a0<i>Modular Synthesis: Patching People and Machines<\/i>(Routledge).<\/p>\n<p>Tamirisa holds a Ph.D. in Computer Music and Multimedia and an M.A. in Modern Culture and Media from Brown University.
