P. Khalil Saucier is Professor of Africana at Bates College. He teaches classes that illustrate practices of fugitivity inflected, informed, and inspired by the black radical tradition, while most of his scholarship takes flight from the decadence of traditional disciplinary positions inclusive of the arts, humanities, and social sciences.\u00a0 He is currently working on a three-part series that explores the entanglement of race, sports, and outdoor leisure. The first monograph is titled <\/span>Black Frames: (Anti)Blackness and the Sport of Cycling<\/span><\/i>, a book that addresses the place of cycling within black diasporic struggles for freedom and recognition within contemporary \u201cpost-racial\u201d America. The second and third book projects are tentatively called <\/span>Angling for Change: Fly Fishing and Black Lives<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Hunting for Diversity: The Hidden Heritage of Black Hunters and Conservation.<\/span><\/i> Both books engage with socio-cultural notions of racial and ethnic identity by exploring the ways in which black fly fishers and black hunters negotiate their identity through multiple articulations of diaspora, community, the outdoors, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

He is also co-editor of Bloomsbury Publishing series, <\/span>Understanding Marronage: Critical and Cross-Disciplinary Engagements.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

In addition to his scholarship and teaching, he has presented numerous\u00a0 public lectures both nationally and internationally, as well as, provided both verbal and written commentary for global and public-facing media platforms such as\u00a0 National Public Radio (NPR), <\/span>Open Democracy<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Black Agenda Report<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Bicycling Magazine,<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Outside Magazine<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to coming to Bates College he was the inaugural director of the Africana Studies Program\u00a0 and later the founding chair of the Department of Critical Black Studies at Bucknell University. He has also served as a Visiting Scholar in Residence at Pennsylvania State University-State College, Humanities Institute and Visiting Scholar, Universit\u00e4t Bremen (Germany), Faculty of Languages and Literatures.<\/span><\/p>\n
