On this page you can find information about all of the AESOP trips for 2025 including a brief trip description, information about the leaders for each trip, Advertised Classifications, and available amenities. Make sure to read this information before making your trip preferences in Garnet Gateway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Advertised Classifications<\/a> will give you a better understanding of criteria such as how far a trip is from medical care or how active a trip will be. You can find more information about those classifications and what they mean here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, you will find trip descriptors that will let you know information such as whether the trip is an Affinity Trip or whether it is sleeping on campus. These designations are placed next to the name of the trip (e.g. ArtSOP- BIPOC Affinity Trip (sleeping on campus)). Affinity trips are designated to build community for individuals who hold or support these identities. Sleeping on campus means that students on the trip will sleep on campus in their individual room assignments, rather than on site at their trip location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get ready to explore one of the most popular places in Maine\u2013 Acadia National Park! During your three days here, your leaders will take you on many different adventures: hiking, swimming, hanging out at the beach, sightseeing, exploring downtown shops, and more! At night, you will sleep in tents at a local campground where you will make meals on a camp stove, smores over a fire, play games with your new classmates, and unlock some core memories!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Sophie McDevitt (left)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Hey guys!!! Heads up – today is about to get a whole lot better because you\u2019re getting introduced to Sophie McDevitt. A long long time ago in our own galaxy not that far away, Sophie drove up to Maine from Belmont, Mass, and Bates has been blessed with her presence ever since. Here she is, entering her senior year as a Biochemistry major, and she has only gotten cooler since (I can\u2019t believe I get to lead AESOP with her!!). Not only does Sophie dabble in the arts with drawing, dance classes, and film photography, but she is also a member of club lacrosse, and is known for having insane style on campus (I get my best thrifting advice from her). On top of all that, she is incredibly kind, funny, and easy-going – she\u2019s truly a comforting presence to everybody on campus. We\u2019ve already torn up some good adventures together, from a trip to Paris, to women\u2019s rugby, to our jazz dance class (where she\u2019s sneaky cracked at it), and I cannot wait to head to Acadia with her (and y\u2019all!!!) in the fall. Yay!!!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Hey guysss! This is Sophie writing about the best person to have ever attended Bates\u2026 BYARS LANGDON. We have been locked in since sophomore year and she is never getting rid of me. She is a rising senior from Austin, Texas majoring in Physics! She also is a part of Bates Club Sailing, and also dabbles in some extracurricular sourdough making (we will have an AESOP breakfast feast) as well as music (she is a manager of the student run live music series VCS) and film photography. This past semester Byars and I had some extra room in our class schedule, and our STEM selves decided to dabble in jazz dance, so if you\u2019re (un)lucky maybe we\u2019ll share a bit with you\u2026 Anyway, Byars is possibly the most welcoming, easy to talk to, and genuine person I know, anyone would simply adore her. If she were a color she would be bright blue with yellow polka dots. We cannot WAIT to go to Acadia with you all, we have been looking forward to it all year :)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Leo Silverman (left)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Let me tell you about my fantastic co-leader, Leo Silverman (He\/Him)! Leo hails from the exotic land of Westchester, NY, and is studying Biology on the pre-med track. When he\u2019s not knee-deep in textbooks, you\u2019ll find him zooming down the slopes as a ski patroller at Lost Valley, saving lives as an EMT at United, or conquering the high seas with the Bates Sailing Team. If it\u2019s outdoors and involves speed, danger, or just looking really cool, Leo is there. Leo is also a fierce lover of hiking, and trust me, he has the blisters and dramatic trail stories from our own AESOP Grafton Notch backpacking trip to prove it. As for AESOP experience, we\u2019re basically pros at this point: this will be our third trip leading together and our fourth AESOP overall. On this trip, get ready to scramble up rocky trails, chase some incredible Acadia views, and hang out around the campfire swapping stories after a long day on the trail. We\u2019ll also spend time exploring tide pools, snacking on scenic overlooks, and soaking up everything Maine\u2019s best national park has to offer. He is beyond excited to meet all of you and crush some scenic hikes together.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Iulia Andrews (right)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Meet my fabulous co-leader, Iulia Andrews (she\/her)! Iulia hails from the charming riverside town of Croton-on-Hudson, NY and is a neuroscience major with a math and chemistry minor. When she’s not diving deep into research, you can find her giving campus tours to future Bobcats, tearing it up on the club lacrosse team, or singing her heart out with her a cappella group, the Meris. On top of it all, she\u2019s inspiring young minds as a fourth-grade teacher at Geiger Elementary! It sounds like a lot \u2014 and it is \u2014 but trust me, Iulia handles it all with total grace and a huge smile. She\u2019s beyond excited to get outside, hit the trails, and show you all the best spots in Acadia (and trust, she has frequented Acadia more than a few times)! She\u2019s so excited to hangout with all of you and soak up all the beautiful scenery of Acadia together!!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Hi Bobkittens! Maggie Metzler, is a rising sophomore from Camden, Maine. She\u2019s super excited to lead Acadia Adventure 3 with Kourtnee! AESOP is such a fun part of the Bates experience and we can\u2019t wait to bring that to the first years! Maggie\u2019s planning on majoring in Politics with a minor in History. She love spending time outside during beautiful Maine summers, tanning and sailing! When she\u2019s NOT being lazy, she can be found teaching kids how to sail in Camden Harbor or scooping ice cream at River Ducks :) Maggie and Kourtnee can often be found rotting in Ladd Library until way too late at night, being far too loud and not doing nearly enough work.     “Kourtnee is also a rising sophomore, and she is from Kingston, Jamaica! She\u2019s an Econ major who REALLY loved taking Intro to Logic (🤥). She is super excited to lead Acadia Adventure 3 with Maggie! She is currently a member of Bates Track and Field as a thrower! In her spare time she enjoys listening to 70\u2019s reggae and ska! She currently has a radio show on WRBC where she plays early morning reggae music. Kourtnee is in recovery from an addiction to 67 jokes, but she is still married to doomscrolling and also Chandler Folkerts (see CitySOP 1).     Acadia Climbing<\/h3>

    This rock-climbing AESOP travels to Acadia National Park to climb, swim, and chill. For two nights, you will sleep at a campground near the park with ample fire rings for quality marshmallow roasting. You will spend two half-days being guided around the world-class rock climbing areas in the park by professional guides from Acadia Mountain Guides. After that, time to explore the surrounding area with your new classmates! At night you will cook at some good old-fashioned picnic tables, play games, and relax after a long day. This trip is for all levels of experience \u2014 both those experienced in rock climbing and those wanting to learn for the very first time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Top of the morning bob-kittens!! My name is Charlotte Bernhard and I am from London, England and the Boston area. I am a rising junior and SO excited to get to rock climb with you. I am a Rhetoric, Film, & Screen Studies and Politics double major and a Dance minor. I don\u2019t ever go to the gym since I\u2019m usually running away from Emma. When not leading our FABULOUS trip I love to ski, dance, and I guess spend time with my co-leader. Emma also loves to dance but instead of teaching you all how to dance we thought \u201chey let\u2019s giving rock climbing a go and take some first years with us!\u201d Don\u2019t worry too much though because Emma has been rock climbing for YEARS (aka she did this exact trip ONCE). Can\u2019t wait to have a cuppa tea by the fire, queue up for dinner, and wear my wellies! Emma and I simply cannot wait!       Howdy cool cats! My name is Emma Randels-LaRocca, but if you forget my name I also respond to \u201chey you\u201d! I am a rising junior all the way from New Orleans, Louisiana! I am SUPER DUPER excited to go Acadia Climbing with y\u2019all (and Charlotte I guess) and even went on the same trip for my AESOP; I\u2019m basically a pro, don\u2019t worry! When I\u2019m not climbing rocks I\u2019m a Dance major and an Education minor and you\u2019ll often find me around campus chasing Charlotte. If you guys have any questions about STEM you\u2019ll have to ask each other or use google (jk we won\u2019t have service). Charlotte is also working on her commons creations because she WILL NOT stop eating pesto pasta with peas and tofu; PLEASE HELP! Can\u2019t wait to teach y\u2019all some line dances and boil some crawfish with y\u2019all! (P.S. don\u2019t ask Charlotte about the Great Pink Eye Scare of 2025; re her glasses in that photo)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      If you love animals, this is the trip for you! Spend your three days with new classmates volunteering at the local Humane Society, learning about the animals of Maine at the Maine Wildlife Park, and hanging out at Wolfe\u2019s Neck State Park with the cows. You will enjoy breakfast and dinner with your leaders and fellow AESOPers in the Commons Dining Hall, as well as packed lunches each day. During downtime, you can explore campus, play games, and get to know your new classmates!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Bonjour AESOPers! Nyla is so excited to be one of your two awesome leaders! She is from Newton, MA, and is a neuroscience major with a religious studies minor! Her hobbies include painting (beautifully), making Commons Creations (she makes fantastic bowls), and dancing (ask her to show you her legendary moves). She is a Leo (and embodies one very strongly), and one of the most authentic people I’ve ever met. Fun fact: she can’t swim, nor can she ride a bike anymore (she claims she was once able to). However, everything she cannot do, she attempts with enthusiasm and passion! On a normal day, you can find her in the library, commons rotting, listening to MGK, or in her bed watching the Sturniolo Triplets on YouTube.         Hey queenies, kingies, and royalty!! This is Jane! She’s from smack dab in the middle of New Jersey. She’s an absolutely beautiful singer and Jane and I duet on the daily ranging from singing happy birthday to songs you cry to in the shower. She’s a music major with a GSS minor who loves to trot from class to class with her cute little denim tote. She\u2019s in an on campus band btw, she\u2019s low key kinda cool (The band’s name is After Hours #Plug). Jane makes me giggle on the daily and you can catch us getting overstimulated together!! In her free time she likes to fiddle with a rubix cube while simultaneously doing the worm (forwards or backwards, just don’t ask her to show this to you in person). Jane does not like cheese or yogurt very much, nor eggs and milk. Don’t get it twisted though, she loves a good almond milk latte!! (ask her about her trip to nitro bar!). She’s a very smart cookie with the cutest face and most coordinated outfits in the world (Catch us twinning). Psst, never let her dye her hair blonde again the brunette is just too good!!         Appalachian Trail Maintenance<\/h3>
        <\/div><\/div>

        Do you love to hike and camp and give back to your community? This trip might be for you. Bates students have historically maintained a beautiful 3.6-mile section of the Appalachian Trail up in Rangeley, Maine and this is your chance to see it! You will spend your days hiking and helping maintain our section of the AT by clearing trees from the trail, cutting back brush at the edge of the trail, and doing other projects as needed. A member of the Maine Appalachian Trail Conservancy will be there to operate machinery, help you with projects, and answer any questions about the trail. At night you will cook meals over a camp stove and sleep in a lean-to on the trail with your leaders and fellow AESOPers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Hello future AESOPers!! My name is Nick Danko (he\/him) and I\u2019m a senior History and Classical & Medieval Studies major from Newtown, Pennsylvania.
          This past semester I studied abroad in Ireland at Trinity College Dublin, but the real highlight of my time abroad was meeting my co-leader Isabelle earlier in the year while we were both studying in Rome.
          Back at Bates you\u2019ll usually find me hiking around Maine, going on spontaneous road trips, or swimming whenever I find a body of water. I\u2019m very excited to get back into the Maine woods and help maintain the Appalachian Trail with all of you.
          Prepare for a week of hard work and great views. Can\u2019t wait to meet you all out there!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

          Greetings future AESOPers!! My name is Isabelle Benson (she\/her) and I am SO excited to meet you all on the trail! I\u2019m a senior Biology major with Chemistry and History minors from Vermont \u2014 which means I spend a lot of time thinking about science but also a lot of time outside looking at fish.
          This past year I studied abroad in Rome, where I met my incredible co-leader Nick while we were both doing important academic activities like wandering cobblestone streets, eating lots of gelato and pizza, and seeing Roman sites.
          At Bates you can usually find me running around campus, crocheting creatures with Knitwits, watching movies with friends, or leading trips with the Outing Club. I also play water polo in the spring. I\u2019ve spent the past few summers working at a summer camp, so I\u2019m a big fan of hiking, swimming, stargazing, and generally being outside as much as possible.
          I\u2019m beyond excited to help maintain the Appalachian Trail with you all and spend the week hiking, working hard, and getting to know you all. See you soon!! 🌲🥾<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

          Centered at Bates-Morse Mountain Conservation Area, this art-based AESOP will provide a very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for you to explore different mediums of art. Explore some of Bates\u2019 beautiful environments at Morse Mountain and Shortridge as you paint and draw some of the beautiful natural landscapes of Maine. Go for a swim or a short hike on Morse Mountain, and relax by the beach in the downtime. This trip is best for those who enjoy the arts and\/or want a relaxed weekend to get to know their new classmates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spend some time at some of Portland\u2019s art museums, then spend the rest of your time drawing, painting, and\/or coloring some of the beautiful spots at and around Bates. There will be easy access to bathrooms and running water the entire trip. Artists and people who have never touched a paintbrush are welcome to sign up for this trip! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Hi AESOPers! My name is Sara (she\/her) and I am from the Philadelphia suburbs (Havertown). I a rising junior, double majoring in Economics and English. I love to read, bake, and hangout with friends. Im always looking new book or movie recs, and am an avid Letterboxed and Goodreads user! I grew up dancing and love to still go the gym and stay active! I love exploring new places, and it has been so much fun to see more of Maine since coming to Bates.               Hi AESOPers! My name is Sasha Walker (she\/her) and I am from Manhattan! I am a double major for econ and math. I love being outdoors especially skiing and hiking. I grew up playing soccer as well! I love exploring new parts of Maine and finding some great new coffee shops near campus. I’m so excited to lead this AESOP with Sara (we met on our AESOP!!).               Baxter State Park Basecamping (Women’s Affinity)<\/h3>
              <\/div><\/div>
              \n

              Baxter State Park prides itself on \u2018wilderness first, recreation second,\u201d making it one of the most pristine wilderness areas you will experience. Home of Katahdin, which translates to \u201cGreatest Mountain\u201d in Penobscot. Baxter Peak, which is the highest mountain in the state of Maine at 5,269 feet, is part of Katahdin and the northern terminus of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Katahdin is held sacred by the Maliseet, Micmac, Passamaquoddy, and Penobscot nations and the geology within and around the monument is central to oral histories, traditions, and cultural practices for each tribal community. You will spend your AESOP trip backpacking through this beautiful and historical landscape. Participants can expect long days on the trail with numerous ascents and descents and an attempt to summit Katahdin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                Maine is famous for its coastline, and this Beach Chillin\u2019 trip will take you to some of the best beaches Maine has to offer! You will explore a total of three different beaches during your three-day trip. All of these spots have beautiful white sand, views, and salty water. Be prepared to soak up the sun’s rays and enjoy three days of playing beach games, swimming, and making new connections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are going to have so much fun on this riveting few days exploring Maine\u2019s beaches! I am from Westbrook, Maine which is just short of an hour away from Lewiston. I haven\u2019t yet declared my major but I am on track to becoming an Economics Major, but I am yet to decide my minor. Outside of academics, I am on the Track and Field team, you can catch me on the track in the afternoon and straight to commons right after practice to commons rot. I love to sun bathe and hang out at the beach with friends, so this trip is right up my alley. I am so excited to meet all of you and embody the AESOP experience. You will explore a total of three different beaches during your three-day trip and return each night to your cozy campsite for campfires and smores. Maddy is also very studious, and if you ever see her full name written on a chalkboard around campus just know she was studying super hard and took a break to practice her signature. If you ever need Maine advice, Maddy is your girl. She also somehow knows everybody in the state.                     Get ready for the backpacking adventure of a lifetime. The Bigelow Range offers hikers a great hiking experience, beautiful campsites, and world-class views from five different peaks! Participants can expect long days on the trail with numerous ascents and descents. On day one a bus will drop you, your leaders, and your fellow AESOPers at the Appalachian Trail Parking Area on Route 27 where you will hit the trail. Over three days you will cover 18 miles and roughly 5,780 feet of elevation gain. At night you will make meals on camp stoves and sleep in lean-tos or tents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This base camping trip offers day hiking with close access to bathroom\/shower facilities at the beginning and end of each day. You will have options to hike up mountains such as Mt. Battie and Megunticook, basking in the panoramic views of the rocky Maine coastline at the summits.\u200b\u200b This trip will take you through long stretches of steep steps and scrambling rocks, so be prepared for some climbing fun! You will have plenty of time for group-bonding activities complete with card games and smores after your daily hikes!                         Class of 2029, meet lovely Natalie!!! Natalie (she\/her) is a sophomore who grew up in Chicago and now lives in Georgia. Although not the most accustomed to the Maine winters (just bought her first-ever pair of snow pants and has owned many different jackets), this gal adores Bates and we adore her! Natalie is an Environmental Science major and is involved as the Community Liaison of the Environmental Coalition and the Social Media Assistant of Bates College.
                        Natalie\u2019s hobbies include cheffing up another incredible Commons Creation meal (Natalie is the Vegan Bar\u2019s number one fan), purchasing another (is this the eighth one this week?) delicious coffee at Bates\u2019 Coffee Shop, the Ronj, emoting mid-convo, sending many smiley face texts :), revealing her incredible music taste, content-creating aesthetic Instagram stories, turning just a tad bit red when embarrassed, and crafting cute DIY gifts for friends.
                        Natalie is truly the sweetest soul and a lovely presence to be around. She is the best listener ever and is always down to chat about anything and everything.

Addicted to matcha, stacking gold jewelry and hot yoga, Maddie is a prime example of your classic outdoorsy granola girl !! Driving all the way up from no man\u2019s land (aka New Hampshire), Maddie\u2019s New Englanderness shows through her kindness, sunshine energy, and incorrect pronunciation of words.
                        Although her favorite movies are disney cartoons, you will never meet someone more motherly. Whether you need gum, a snack, life-saving cpr (shout out EMT), or a dance floor partner Maddie has it all. Maddie\u2019s impeccable planning talents ensure the BEST trip itineraries and only ever-so-slight peevishness when things don\u2019t go her way. Some of her other passions include signing up for every obscure event on campus, having bowel issues, and shopping on Depop.
                        Her narcissism may lead her to only like guys that look like her but you will never meet someone so considerate of others. She will comfort you after any messy night, make sure you are always heard, and lend you a shoulder to cry on or a really cute top to cheer yourself up!                               Yellow! My name is Gabriel Gracies but you can just call me Gabe. I\u2019m in the Class of 2029 here at Bates, majoring in Biology on the pre-med track. I\u2019m from Worcester, MA, but I\u2019m originally from Mumbai, India. I also lived in Japan for 7 years! Other than cooking, Ian and I LOVE to play volleyball (and so will you), I rock climb, play the drums (yes I\u2019m in a band), I DJ, and I love to play FIFA. I also love the local Lewiston Walmart, Popeyes, and Goodwill! Head to Salt Pump climbing gym for some awesome indoor rock climbing, spend some time at Bates\u2019 own climbing wall, and a variety of other fun outdoor activities, determined by you and your leaders, on and near the Bates campus.                                     Hancock Family Farm, located in Casco, Maine, is perhaps the perfect spot to spend a day outside\u2014if you don\u2019t mind getting your hands dirty, that is. The organic farm is surrounded by acres of organic farmland consisting of veggie gardens, rolling fields, and lots of fresh produce. Although there are a variety of farming activities included in this trip, you can expect to have some dirt under your nails by the end of the day and maybe even get lucky enough to make your own flower bouquet!                                         Hi AESOPers! My name is Skye Pearlman, and I\u2019m a sophomore from Westchester, New York. I\u2019m a potential Psych and Theater double major, but i\u2019m currently still undecided. My hobbies include skiing, listening to music, junk journaling, rewatching movies I\u2019ve already seen, and taking my dog on walks (when i\u2019m home). In commons you\u2019ll often find me at the vegan bar as a devout vegetarian. My name is Lucia Frick, I\u2019m class of 2029, and I\u2019m from Limerick Maine (AKA the middle of nowhere), so if you have any Maine-related questions surrounding your future at Bates, I\u2019m a great person to ask. I\u2019m a film major and Spanish minor, and I also love drawing, animating, thrifting\/fashion, and screenwriting (I\u2019m the biggest movie nerd I know)!                                         Spend your first weekend at school canoeing in one of the most beautiful places in Maine! This trip will sleep at Cathedral Pines Campground, right on the shores of Flagstaff Lake. The shoreline is largely undeveloped, leaving lots of wilderness to be seen. Spend your days paddling, and your evenings around the campfire eating yummy meals cooked on a camp stove. There is even a small beach at the campground the relax at the end of the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                                        Fun fact: In 1950, Central Maine Power flooded the village of Flagstaff to make way for a hydro-dam, so the abandoned village lies at the bottom of the lake, 50 feet below your canoes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                                          Hey Aesoppers! My name is Charlotte \u201cBulldozer\u201d Comrack and I am a rising senior from the totally real city of Washington, D.C.. Obviously, this means that I feel deeply connected to the better Washington, where my co-leader Alexa hails from. At Bates, I am an English major with a Digital and Computational Studies minor\u2014a prime example of what the liberal arts experience can do for you. If you\u2019re planning on writing any code on what Charles Dickens was getting at when he wrote Great Expectations (or whatever I do in my classes), I\u2019m your girl. Ever since I met Alexa, I have been searching for a hobby that I can take as seriously as she takes the french horn. This led me to semi-professional sweeping. At the beginning of my sophomore spring, I was hired as the student sweeper of Roger Williams Hall and every day, my wrath rains down on each and every fleck of dust with the nerve to show up on those stairs. Through this experience, I have learned that working with brooms is not just my job, it’s my passion.                                           Greetings beautiful Aesoppers! My name is Alexa Terry and I am a rising senior from the great city of Seattle, Washington. At Bates, I am an Econ and Environmental Studies double major with a concentration in global environmental politics. I want you all to know how VERY excited I am to lead you on the beautiful, wild waters of Flagstaff Lake! In all the ways I will lead, I will also protect. I have been a lifeguard since 15, and even though my certification has expired, the years I spent at my high school lifeguarding job yelling at disobedient children have instilled in me a lifelong passion for water safety! Trust that you will be safe in my hands. If you\u2019re interested in what I do with my free time, I have three primary hobbies. The first is of course my deeply serious connection to the fiber arts. Feel free to bring all your pressing yarn-related questions with you on this trip; we WILL be crafting. I have also spent countless hours of my adult life playing Minecraft.                                           Hi future bobcats! Meet your future flagstaff leader Ava Aspen (left) from the wonderful state of Connecticut or wait\u2026.correction, the boring state of Connecticut because what are they known for. Don\u2019t you fret though because Ava is anything but boring. In her free time here at Bates you\u2019ll likely see her on that pre-med grind, ski patrolling at Lost Valley (our local ski resort), catching up on her favorite tv-shows\/movies (don\u2019t ask her how many times shes watched greys anatomy through), or reading a book. I once heard that she reads every night before bed. Some may say that\u2019s admirable but honestly I highly doubt that\u2019s true (we\u2019ll have to wait and see on AESOP). On Sundays here at Bates our friends go on an outdoor adventure we call Side Quest Sunday. When I\u2019m with Ava on any ski slope or trail I have nothing to worry about. With her amount of outdoor experience it\u2019s safe to say she\u2019s hugged her fair amount of trees which makes her a great guide on the trails while I find the food spot for after. Some say we compliment each other perfectly. That is especially true in our dining hall, commons. We always say whatever one doesn’t think of the other does. Get ready for some creative chefing because with our collective minds you\u2019ll be eating good. All jokes aside, Ava has been a great friend of mine since we arrived here at Bates. Her warmth, attentiveness and kindness is what truly makes this place feel like home. I guarantee you\u2019ll feel the same on our AESOP and beyond as you continue your transition into the Bates community. Whether you need a helping hand, advice session, or just a laugh, Ava is the one to call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                                          Helloooo future Bobcats! This is your beautiful Flagstaff Canoeing leader, Faye Moledina (right)!! Like all of you, Faye was on a canoeing trip for her Aesop, which basically means she\u2019s a pro (ask her for photos because they\u2019re amazing). She\u2019s from Cleveland, Ohio, but has sadly never met the Paul brothers :((( She is an Environmental Studies Major and Chinese Minor, so you\u2019ll likely find her reading hundred-page readings or writing Chinese characters over and over and over\u2026 and over. Faye is on the executive board of the South Asian Student Association, SASA for short, and a member of Bates very own Bollywood dance team, so go see her breaking it down on the dance floor. She\u2019s also an aspiring entrepreneur, so hit her up with any of your AMAZINGGGG business ideas.
                                          Aside from her academic endeavors, Faye is the BIGGEST foodie I know. Fun fact: she wrote her common app essay about food! Whether it\u2019s making us try her crazy commons creations or traveling around the world just to eat, I\u2019m jealous every time a post from her food Instagram account hits my feed. Go drop a follow @foodaccordingtofaye !!! She\u2019s also always down to have a chill night in listening to Daniel Caesar and have a deep convo. If you ever need an aesthetic picture she\u2019s also the girl for that. She LOVESSS to venture to Portland on the weekends to study at a coffee shop or even go to her weekly hot yoga classes.                                           Grafton Notch has so many spectacular views of Maine. This 20-mile backpacking trip will carry you through Grafton Notch State Park. Explore scenic views in this highest-level difficulty trip. Due to the remote nature of campsites, there will be no access throughout the trip to bathrooms and running water. However, those who hike this will experience a great outdoor bonding experience in some of the most beautiful parts of Maine. Those with a can-do attitude and a willingness to hike long amounts of difficult terrain in a short amount of time will love this hike, and it is built for them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just a small testament to the beautiful bonds this trip forges. I’m from Wayland, MA, and I’m majoring in psych with a minor in education and Spanish. I love the outdoors, nerds gummy clusters, Bates Sailing (shoutout), and a good campfire game of Silent Football (get ready to play). As a fellow Grafton Backpacker for my own AESOP trip freshman year (with none other than my fabulous co-leader, Eva Bogan), I can confirm that Grafton is the best of the best as far as AESOP trips go and I can’t wait to run it back again. I’m from upstate New York, and am majoring in biology with concentrations in the human body and philosophy\/psychology. I am from New Hampshire, but I\u2019ve also spent a lot of time in Maine. I am a big runner, hiker, and skier, which has been a great way to experience all that New England (and Maine) has to offer. One of my favorite activities has been taking my friends Nordic Skiing at Lost Valley (only a 10 min drive from campus)! I am planning on studying Biochem and Math, but with all the awesome classes here at Bates that might change. This will be a great opportunity to work on projects that will serve as a great service to the community of Rockland, Maine.                                                   Mooselookmeguntic Lake is a beautiful 50 miles of open water located an hour and 45 minutes from campus. You will camp on an island not far from the main campground, with access to a fire ring, outhouse, and picnic table. You can expect to spend your days paddling around the lake, stopping for breaks and lunch. At night, you will be able to bond over games, cook dinners on camp stoves, sit around the campfire, and enjoy a water view right from your tent each morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She\u2019s a rising senior from Palo Alto, California majoring in Politics and minoring in Dance. She can\u2019t get enough of the dance studio, so she\u2019s also a part of 2Beats, our hip hop dance group.                                                     This is Stephanie Charbonnier, more commonly known as Steph, and she is my amazing co leader!! Don\u2019t be like me and make the mistake of calling her the wrong name for the first three days after you meet her. Although it did seem to leave a lasting impression on her cause we\u2019re still friends three years later. We were lucky enough to be on the same AESOP trip our freshman year, and have been inseperable ever since. A little bit about Steph \u2014 she is a rising senior from Essex, Connecticut. At Bates, she is an Environmental Studies major and Music minor. Boy does she love her acapella. She\u2019s a tone (Crosstones) and will be co-president next year. When she\u2019s not singing, you can find her on Taylor Pond with the sailing team, in the dance studio, with her friends in commons eating pesto eggs, or outside (hiking, skiing, you name it).                                                     Inviting all experienced hikers and beginners alike! This trip is for those who want to do what they love or for those seeking to try something new in a supportive environment. On the first day, you will conquer 4.7 miles of Tumbledown Mountain; near the summit, you might take a dip in Tumbledown Pond or simply relax on the rocky edge near the scenic water view. Be prepared for steep climbs and some scrambling rocks on the way up! The second day will let you experience Webb Lake beach after a brief and flat-trailed hike. You might even have a chance to kayak and canoe! A steep 3-mile hike up Mt. Blue, the last day of this trip offers a rewarding experience that features beautiful wildflowers and rocky climbs. This trail leads to a spectacular summit with an elevation of 3,187 feet where you may ascend to the top of an observation tower for an even<\/em> better view of the mountainous landscape that surrounds Weld and Webb Lake. Enjoy your nightly stay at a campsite near the base of Mt. Bluewhere you will sleep in tents and cook on camp stoves. Bathroom\/shower facilities are within a couple of hundred feet of access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                                                      This is Ava Varrell my best friend since the first week of freshman year when she told me to stop walking barefoot in the hallway of Page and also the funniest person you may ever meet. Ava is known around Bates as a sort of modern Shakespeare, forging new paths for Bates students on a daily basis, such as being the only Biochem major planning to go to Law School. She also has the memory of an elder elephant, so if you ever want to reminisce on our amazing AESOP trip to come, Ava is your girl. Some other fun facts about Ava are that she has the most multifaceted \u201cdiscover friday\u201d playlist on spotify you may ever hear and led what some have referred to as the most magical CitySop AESOP to date during her sophomore year. It\u2019s also important to note that when Ava and I are together, we are basically telepathic; we have the longest charades winning among our friends because what other pair could flawlessly guess \u201cBicycle with a brain!\u201d We couldn\u2019t be more excited to CHOP IT UPP with you all on Mt.                                                       This is your amazing AESOP leader, Clio Turner (right) (some may call her Voldemort); we have been best friends since the first week of freshman year when I caught her walking around Page barefoot in a pajama set. Clio is known for her wizard-like tendencies, ability to recognize any song that is being played within the first two seconds, ability to lead 200-mile backpacking trips, and overall ability to integrate anybody into a conversation and figure out within three minutes if they are a fairy or a mermaid. We have a shared love for the name Persephone and expect a riddle to be brought to every conversation. Clio is one of the most creative and clever people I know (she also thinks that jam can go on anything, including risotto) and we cannot wait to sparkle all over Mt.                                                       What up bobcats! I\u2019m Sarah Hughes (she\/her), a rising senior from the Jersey Shore and I cannot wait to be a leader for Mount Blue 3! I\u2019m on the women\u2019s basketball team here at Bates, and I\u2019m lucky enough to be leading this trip with my awesome teammate and friend, Mya Hicks. I\u2019m all about being active and outside \u2013 whether that\u2019s a beach day, bike ride, or tossing a ball around with friends. AESOP was one of my favorite memories from freshman year and I can\u2019t wait to do it again with my good friend and teammate Sarah Hughes! When it comes to being outside I love sitting by the lake and taking short hikes. Swimming, beach volleyball and reading\/journaling are some of my favorite warm weather activities, especially if ice cream and a good playlist are involved. There are both shower and toilet facilities available in the state park. I’m an Environmental Studies (in the ecology track), German double major with a minor in European Studies. Last summer, I did research with Professor Eric LeFlore on bobcat populations in Maine. I\u2019m a neuroscience major and chemistry minor, hoping to go to medical school after a gap year working and backpacking Europe and Asia. My biggest involvements on campus are in Bates EMS and research on the visual system. My favorite things to do are hiking, skiing (I will absolutely encourage you to get the New England Ski Pass this winter), working out, guitar, and putting more whipped cream than soft serve in my soft serve bowls. One of my goals before graduation is to hike all of the Maine 4000-footers. Kai and I have been best friends ever since we camped in the mud on Mt. Im currently an Administrative Assistant for the Bates Dance Festival and Im a Company Manager for the Marcy Plavin Spring Dance Concert. (So if you want to talk about dance at Bates don’t hesitate to reach out.) Im a huge horror movie enthusiast, folk music listener, and outdoor explorer. Im currently trying to learn how to play the guitar. I use to have a pet Catfish. And I am an avid, though pretty bad, Jennifer Coolidge impersonator. I’m an avid canoer, guitarist, climber, and explorer of all things outdoors, so please pick my brain about anything relating to the glorious 207 (shoutout to my hometown Waterville, Maine). Get hyped for a trip filled with campfire convos (perhaps some karaoke, too), Coleman stove creations (ever heard of a Jet Boil?), and putting your paddles to the beautiful waters that Rangeley, Maine has to offer (Patrick’s still taking his canoe course online, but he’ll definitely cook up a good playlist for the bus ride). I love all things Maine, and can\u2019t wait to dive into life at Bates with you! I love to travel and spent a lot of time in Europe last fall while studying abroad in Copenhagen. On campus, you can find me in Pettigrew Hall, home to our three theaters on campus.                                                                 This trip, centered at Popham State Park, will combine surfing with the arts over the three days of AESOP. Relax on the beach and explore some of Maine\u2019s natural beauty at Popham, while learning to knit on the beach and surf on the water! Designed to be a beginner\u2019s experience for both of these activities. There are plenty of other activities as well, including nearby day hikes.                                                                   Hi new Batesies! My name is Mazie and I\u2019m so stoked for our AESOP trip doing two things I absolutely love, knitting and surfing! I grew up surfing on Long Island (I\u2019m from NTY!) and I have been knitting since high school (mostly hats!) My dear friend Caroline and I love Maine and Bates, and we\u2019re so excited to introduce you to this special place and community. When I\u2019m not surfing or thinking about surfing, you can find me singing in my acapella group, playing guitar, hitting the river run, or hanging out in commons for way too long. I also know a thing or two about Spongebob the Musical and the hip-hop baby freeze..more on that later. Anyways, I can\u2019t wait to get to know every one of you and have a truly epic adventure!                                                                   Hi everyone! My name is Caroline, and I am super excited to lead Wool and Waves since it involves two of my favorite things! My co-leader and I, Mazie, met early in our freshman year, and we instantly connected on a surfing trip with the Bates Outing Club. We have been best buds ever since and have gone on many other outdoor adventures together. I have done most of my surfing on southern Maine beaches, and I am excited for you to join us and see what this wonderful state has to offer. Along with my love for the state of Maine, the Bates community also has a very special place in my heart, and I can\u2019t wait for you to be a part of it. Aside from outdoor activities, I am also a member of the Bates Swim and Dive Team, and I love to volunteer in the Lewiston\/Auburn community!
