{"id":421,"date":"2012-08-22T15:32:29","date_gmt":"2012-08-22T19:32:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/french\/?page_id=421"},"modified":"2014-09-25T09:46:35","modified_gmt":"2014-09-25T13:46:35","slug":"ffs-web-site","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/french-francophone-studies\/ffs-web-site\/","title":{"rendered":"FFS Web site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students of French and Francophone Studies, especially majors and minors, are strongly encouraged to study in a French-speaking setting.<\/p>\n<p>An immersion experience in France or a Francophone country is the best way to improve linguistic proficiency, develop cultural competence and gain a more sophisticated understanding of the various facets of French-speaking societies.\u00a0 The many options for study abroad include the Bates Fall Semester in France and short terms abroad, summer study with an approved program, or Junior Semester and Junior Year Abroad.\u00a0 Students should consult with their advisor in French and Francophone Studies, as well as the Office of Off-Campus Study, about recommended programs that best fit their needs and interests.\u00a0 They must obtain approval of the department chair before they travel in order to receive credit for courses taken in French and Francophone Studies while abroad. (See catalog for credit received.)
