2018 Fall Semester Abroad in Chile



Spend Fall Semester 2018 in Santiago, Chile with two Bates professors exploring science and identity in Latin America.



The Fall Semester Abroad program consists of 4 courses:  “The Zombie Scare: Viruses, Difference and the Question of Security and Order” (Professor Aburto Guzmán); “Genetically Modified Organisms: Science and Latin American Perceptions” (Professor Lawson); “Introduction to Public Health in Chile” (Professor Arteaga Herrera, University of Chile); a Spanish language course.  No prior knowledge of Spanish is required.  Detailed course descriptions and credit information.

Live in a city of 7.4 million at the foot of the Andes:

Santiago highlights:

Academic excursions: Academic excursions to the Atacama region, to the Chiloé Archipelago, and to Valparaiso are an integral part of the program.

Housing: Students live in home stays with families in Santiago.

Fees:  All expenses, including round trip travel to Santiago, are covered by the Bates single fee. Students will need additional funds for personal entertainment and personal travel.  Bates financial aid applies.
