This has a result of heightened security measures instituted since September 11, 2001.<\/p>\n<p>Security checks and the requirement to have an appointment for an interview are the primary causes for delays. The<a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/us-visas\/study\/exchange.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Department of State<\/a>&#8216;s (DOS) web information on non-immigrant visas is a good source of current information:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/us-visas\/visa-information-resources\/wait-times.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Visa Wait Times<\/span><\/a> provides approximate wait times for visa appointments and visa processing at each U.S. consulate. Note that appointments for &#8220;F&#8221; students and &#8220;J&#8221; Exchange Visitors have priority over other classifications.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/us-visas\/visa-information-resources\/list-of-posts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">United States Embassies and Consulates Worldwide<\/span><\/a> provides information on procedures, fees, and online application forms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another useful source is the the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> US Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a> (ICE) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Visa Interview Requirement:<\/strong><br \/>\nAll nonimmigrants require a visa appointment.
