If you receive a suspicious scam call, gather the following information:<\/strong>
\u2022 What day and time did they call?
\u2022 Who did they say they were?
\u2022 What exactly did they say? What did they want you to do?
\u2022 Did a transaction occur in person (cash) or electronically (transfer\/credit card)?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please contact CGE if you get a call like this. To prevent yourself from falling victim to a scam, review information from the USCIS on common immigration scams<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you receive a phishing email:<\/strong>
Scammers send email messages in an attempt to trick you into revealing personal identity information that can be used to commit fraud, a practice commonly referred to as Phishing.
\u2022 Report it! Forward the phishing email to helpdesk@bates.edu<\/a> and consider reporting the attack to the police and filing a report with the Federal Trade Commission<\/a>.
\u2022 Passwords: If you have revealed your password, change your password on every account that uses it. For Bates passwords, also report the disclosure to the Help Desk at 207-786-8222 or helpdesk@bates.edu<\/a> so they can be on the lookout for suspicious activity.
\u2022 Financial Information: If you have revealed financial information, contact your financial institution immediately and close any accounts that may have been compromised. Watch for any unexplained charges to your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have paid and\/or released sensitive information to a scammer, please do the following<\/strong>
\u2022 Inform the police:
Report to Campus Safety at\u202f207-786-6254.
Report to Lewiston Police Department at 207-784-6421<\/p>\n\n\n\n
