Fac\u00adulty travel to loca\u00adtions where our stu\u00addents study to gain first hand knowl\u00adedge of the pro\u00adgram or uni\u00adver\u00adsity and its setting.<\/p>\n<p>In most cases, the funds sup\u00adport participation on a &#8220;familiarization visit&#8221; organized by a study abroad program provider or a site visit by a faculty member who is already abroad for college or personal travel. To be most effective, the vis\u00adits needs to\u00a0 be under\u00adtaken when the pro\u00adgram or uni\u00adver\u00adsity is in ses\u00adsion with Bates students enrolled. The funds are awarded throughout the year as opportunities for these visits often arise unexpectedly. Since funds are limited, faculty should discuss potential visits with Darren Gallant prior to applying for funds.
